Do you feel a stock CT26 (mkIII) can be run at 11 psi with out hurting it ? I am on my second turbo and only have one used one left . Boost is increased by shimming the waste gate and not a boost controller. What I am asking is how long have you been runnung higher than stock boost with out any problems? I dont think I can drive the car with out at least 10 psi (LOL). I am running syn oil and do let it idle before shutting it off.

We have seen 3 turbos (CT26) fail in the last year shortly after the boost was raised above factory levels.

All of them inspected well with minimum shaft play. As soon as the boost was increased (11~13 PSI) they ran about 200 km then failed.

I know that they were not in great shape to begin with but who knows how many miles were on the seals before they went. An electronic BC would reduce any spiking that may occur but I don't think that is the issue. I think the CT26 was never designed for 18 years of duty and just craps at high boost if there is any play in it at all.

Maybe take your good spare and send it to a shop to get rebuilt. I am told the modded ct26 is fairly resilient to high PSI and reduces lag at the same time.

mikes used one was terrible before hand Earl, it was A LOT of shaft play. so i'm not surprised it went. Mikes first one lasted a long time before going. and yours was well worn too, with worn impellers it would have been working as hard to get 11psi as a good condition impeller might have to get 18psi. so it was over working its old used self.

that said, ALL ct-26's are old. generally 11psi is fine, but i would check the shaft play and impeller and exhaust side turbines to be sure.

Also, shimming the wastegate is fun, but for over 9-10 psi is bad, it limits the amount your wastegate can open which can cause boost creep.

On a side note It is using some oil ,has any one else had a oil consumption problem due to the turbo ? Might have to go see JDM source for a new power plant. Any recomendations for a turbo rebuild? The last one I had rebuilt was a big head ache.
