Hi Everyone,

Here is another idea for the club. Since we have many members now, we could have our own official car show.

We can work out the details later, I just thought I would send this off to the crowd and see who is thinking what. The timeline for the show would not be untill sometime in say July or August, which would allow us enough time to plan and work out the finer details.

Man "celica83_gts"’s Celica got balls man, I give it mad props from me, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be able to come, hah. It’s faster than my Supra, I’m so very sad.

Hey Bob,

Last time I checked you are in the club. :D Your Celica is more than welcome to participate. Infact it would bring excellent diversity to the show. I think anyone that has a Celica, Supra-Celica, and Supra and as long as they are in the club should be allowed to show.

Just my thoughts. :D

Thanks guys, sometimes I feel a little inferior with my car. This inferiority complex drives me to try and make it quicker all the time. Oh, and bad news for night_font, the light flywheel addition seems to have made quite a difference, she's even faster now! How did I drive n/a cars for so long?....

Seriously though, a show sounds great, a chance to work on the shiny sides of our cars for a change, make 'em all purdy! Might even take the toolbox out for a day, I'd better not drive by any junkyards!

I was involved in a Sunday afternoon show once in Sun Toyota's East parking lot, it was quite successful. The Whyte Avenue location drew a lot of casual observers and was a good promo for the dealership. There are also a lot of options nearby for food or just to take a break from the sun. Just an idea for Mike to toss around.

Umm so who thinks their car is ready for this?

I think we have several cars that would show well...This Saturday at my BBQ we need to talk about this. I have noticed that we have not really done any "Club" talk. Now others have brought up ideas that I started the club for. Shows, racing, and community support is going to get the club noticed & supported in this city.

As for my car...I would need 1 month, 1 litre of metal polish, several interior parts, steam cleaner, $4,000 for body & paint, 17 cubic yards of fiber glass, 4 - 17" 1000 watt subs, 8 bridged amps, 7 batteries, a 1000 amp alt, 28 feet of neon tubing, 32" plasma screen, playstation 3, and glowing air caps for the wheels.

OK maybe I don't need a full month, they do this in 7 days on TV!

Bob, you want to race! Let me know if there is anything that I can do to make this happen for you. Same goes for any one else, reasearch, wrenching, let me know.

I want it all, El Presidente! I think we can have it all too, as long as we keep things on a reasonable scale. I also think you guys would be surprised at the response to cleaning up our babys, propping the hoods open, and kicking back for an afternoon on Whyte Ave. There are a whole lot of people who had, wanted, or knew someone who had a Supra. People dig these cars, and they are becoming more scarce every year. And, the East parking area of Sun Toyota is an ideal size for a little show, rather than having a few cars lost in a big venue like a mall parking lot.

As far as the racing goes, I just want to see what she's got, the thought of racing regularly gives me an ache where my wallet should be.... but I do think once or twice a year the club should show up at the strip as a group.

Pimp my ride! A wax and vacuum might have to suffice for most of us!

Wax? Vacuum? Sure that is good too.

I spent last night sanding & painting the bucket for the spare tire. I found 3" of water in there Monday and the fender on the left side was full of water also. I drained it and let it dry for a day. Last night I removed the wing & resealed it but my guess is that was not the issue as there is a little bit of water in there again today. If I can, tonight I’ll reseal the wiper arm assembly. I was wondering why my car made funny sloshing sound when I turned?

Hi Bob,

Inferior??? Man you are pumping some impressive numbers compared to our MKIII tanks. If we are not carefull Bob will be the fastest one in the club.

I will drop by Sun Toyota on Monday to ask them about a car show. I will find out what they want from the club, when would be a good day for them to have it. I agree, it would be a good place to have a show. Lots of traffic and it would bring people into their lot.

Perhaps we should do some advertising in the papers and on the 780 tuners sites about the car show to help draw a crowd.

As for the time frame for a show, should we have a 1/2 day event, full day event? What are people thinking here?

I'm not sure about advertising in papers yet, we'll probably have a fairly small show. I like the idea of spreading the word with the tuners.

When we did this before, with Larry Wong and the Celica/Supra club, we did it on a Sunday from late morning (10ish) to mid afternoon (3:30-4). Saturdays the parking area is used for customers, but on a Sunday we can have it all for ourselves. There is room for about 15 cars comfortably spaced, if I recall.

I can probably get Larry to bring his Celi out. His car makes mine look rough! The dealership would most likely be game to park a newer Supra or Celica from their used car lot, depending on what's available. As for the rest of our cars, every one has it's merits. As I said before, people see the car they used to own, or always wanted. The flaws we're all so familiar with are invisible to the casual observer most of the time. Clean 'em up nice and show them with pride!

Divots? Do you golf on your car? LOL J/K

Bob is right. To us (the owners) our cars will never be perfect and we will always see the imperfections, but to those that are passing buy and gawking, they will never know.

I think anyone that wants to participate from the club should participate. I do not feel the car needs to be a show room condition inorder to show it off. We can have non Supra's there too. I think it would help with the turn out of people stoppiong by to Gawk. Ie I will probably be spending most of my time drooling over Kevin's Cressida as I used to have one. :D

I think a Sunday would work best for everyone. I will run it by Ron and who ever else I need to talk to there on Monday and post the feedback on the forum.

I did not know that Larry was still in town. I have had the opprotunity to meet him a few times. We could even invite some our supporters to come along too. Ie) AutoRolla and Silverstone even if they just drop by. I am sure Hugh and Harv will as they are just accross the street.

How bad is that, I'm quoting myself! Actually, I was thinking, and maybe a listing in the wheels section events column might be a good idea. When I first read about newspaper ads I had visualized a paid ad, which would make little sense. Just an announcement would be cool though.

Thanks Mike, for taking this on!

Hi Bob,

Sorry I should have specified that I was thinking a quick blurb in the wheels section. :D

If you like we could take out a full page add and announce it to Alberta! Now there would be an idea, except I am not willing to give up my arm and leg for the add. LOL

My pleasure for taking this on.

I will talk to Matt (ChromeDragon) next time I see him about getting the event listed in the Journal/Wheels since he works there. They usually list car shows/events in the wheels section anyway, so I doubt it'd be too hard to get it on there.

Ok Folks, I have spoken with Ron at Sun Toyota about a car show for sometime in July/August. Ron is very keen on the idea. He is going to bring it up at a managers meeting this week and find out what their thoughts are on it. I told them that we would give them a months notice of the date. It looks like a Sunday show would be prefered which is perfect. I will post with more details as I get them.

The show will be open to anyone that wants to put their vehicle in. It does not have to be a show car or a garage queen to participate. There are plenty of members that have supras as daily drivers and this would be a good testiment to Toyota's engineering and quality.

If you have any questions, or would like to see something in the show, please let me know.

Thank you for all your input.

Hi Foster,

About the divots, try a product called "Ding King". You can pick it up for about $30.00 at Canadian Tire. It is a screwless dent removal kit. My buddy used this on his Fiance's car and was successfully able to pull out a dent the size of a grapefruit on her Caviler. This uses hot glue and a brace. The glue will not damage your paint. Included in the kit is the glue, glue gun, the puller, and a few things to attach to the puller.

Hope this helps.

Mike, thanks I may give that a try. I remember seeing it on T.v. a long time ago, but wasn't sure what to make of it. Sounds impressive. The dent doesn't bother me much though, this cars likely future will include a roll cage and a long dirt road with checkpoints.

My car is in pretty rough shape and it is mostly for racing, but I'd still bring it and show it off. I thought it might be a good idea to maybe throw out some sort of BBQ while we're there, as long as Sun Toyota doesn't mind. That way we can make some spare coin for the club, and there's a lot of people that walk down Whyte Ave. A lot of HUNGRY people. I can also see about getting some beautiful MR2s to come down if you would like, but they might show us up

Last night I removed the wing & resealed it but my guess is that was not the issue as there is a little bit of water in there again today. If I can, tonight I’ll reseal the wiper arm assembly.

I have a leaking wiper arm assembly and I'm willing to bet that's what it is for you too.

Anyhow, let me know what you guys think!

Hi Tim,

Doing a BBQ is not a bad idea to raise money for the club. If we go this route there would need to be a few things that would happen.

1) We would need to officially register ourselves as a club as a non profit organization and file tax returns etc.

2) We would need to open a non profit account to control the funds.

3) We would need to take minutes of every formal meeting that we have and submit them with the tax returns

4) It would not be a bad idea to raise money for a charity. Ie) 1/2 of the proceeds go to chairty X, then the rest go to the club.

5) We would need to officially elect a board of directors for the club. Ie) Prez, Vice Prez, Treasurer, etc.

6) We would need to start charging membership dues to help off set the flow of cash for club sponsored activities.

But this is not a bad idea and if the club is willing to move foward with this then I would support the move. I think it should be addressed at our next meeting and see what is going forward from there.

Good idea Tim!

Ok Everyone,

Here is the deal. I just spoke with Ron and Sun Toyota is onboard and excited with our car show. We have agreed on a Sunday as this will not impact their business operations. We can use the East parking lot as that is normally empty on the weekends. Any Sunday works out well for them so I am thinking lets do a show in August. Perhaps the second week in August would work well. Sunday August 14 2005?

How does this sound? Works, Does not work? Let me know as I value all feed back.

That would be just great...we will really need to get more cars out than normal. Maybe book this thing so a select time frame so people can plan to show up and still get out to other things the same day. We will need to pick a date soon so our out of town friends plan can make it. I know Jack is itching to bring both his cars up from Red Deer. :D
