I am installing a different fuel tank in my 88. Picked up a tank from a club member and want to redo everything before popping it in (seeing as its sitting out right now)

I think there would be 4 gaskets and 4 sets of screws/bolts needed. I also want to install a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump.

Do I need to change up any of the electrical for the fuel pump (different regulator?)

And.. is the single Walbro sufficient for up to 800 cc injectors? (I would never do 1000, thats just farther then I could imagine going with the car). I will probably go with 550's, but want a little growth potential.. just in case..

Also, any suggestions for treating/cleaning the rust areas around the edges and "opening areas" of the tank? Its been coated on the outside, but I will have to brush some out of the way. Just want to get it as clean as possible prior to putting it on the car.

(put this in here.. because I need the parts)

Oh, also, the pins with the clips for locking the tank back in place. I think the bolts and straps are good enough (I have dropped the tank down already once to do the spout.. which.. wasn't leaking.. PITA doing that without dropping the tank completely.. )

I would replace the straps and bolts if they aren't too incredibly insanely priced.

(I like new parts.. and would replace everything needed to hold the tank on the car if they arent too outrageous)

I don't know much about the Walbros, but IIRC, I heard 500-600 hp safely per pump maybe? Might be wrong on that, but thats the number sticking in my head.

Probably no problem then.

Where's the best place to buy those? online?

Jeff, can you give me prices for the top gaskets? I think the screws come with them, if not, I can replace them or just clean them up. (I haven't torn off the covers, but I assume they all have rubber seals)

Not 100% sure who is cheapest for those pumps right now, but I've always had a good experience with MVP Motorsports. No idea if there's anybody more local to deal with.

Just curious, why a Walbro?

Probably no problem then.

Most likely because the Walbro 255lph pump is a dead-simple drop-in replacement for the stock, but with improved flow at higher pressures. Bolt it to the stock hanger, stock fuel line, and go.

I don't know MKIII's very well, but would the MKIV Denso pump bolt on as easily? It's actually supposed to outperform the Walbro by a bit...

I have heard of the MKIV pump being used, but not any specifics. I am reading from all over (wherever I can find info) so I can walk through it once. I do think that if I stay under 500 HP, a single is all I need and the Walbro is just the most common choice. (so far)

The MKIV pump actually fits better than the Walbro. Walbros have a smaller diameter and are not just direct-fit pumps. The MKIV pump is a direct fit, and considerably quieter to boot.

I will check on the gaskets, screws and strap hardware and post up some pricing in a bit here.

Thank you Jeff. I am hoping to get the parts all in and have the tank prepped for installation within a couple weeks.

Are the MKIV pumps prohibitively expensive here? (just wondering if I should be ebaying... lol)
