well, i was thinking, what about having a little christmas get together?
some time in december, find out whos interested then book at a nice restaraunt, the moose factory perhaps.
it would be a pay as you eat thing, so it can be as expensive or cheap as each person wants, but i thought it would be cool to have a meet in nicer surroundings than usual.
if your interested post up :)

so, after a little discussion at the meet, mid december was mentioned
dec 05 and 12 were good options, both mondays.
i would like to go to tom goodchild's moosefactory.
a) its nice, fairly classy, more of a special occasion kinda joint
b) the service is excellent!
c) mondays are 30% off steaks.
basically a 4 star meal at boston pizza prices.
if anyone else has better suggestions feel free to post them up.
i plan to post a poll at the end of the week and we can figure things out from there.

I'm going with the 5th on this one b/c I have two exams on the 15th to study for, and then two more later that week.

Barry,
The 5th works for me. Count me in for now. Everybody should post if they are coming and if they are bringing a date/wife/friend/partner/pet so Barry can make a guess at a reservation count.
I think we will have to book ahead on this or we may be frigged for seats.

Oh and a big "Supra Star" cheer for Barry for doing this for us: :woot: (hahahahahahahhahahahahhaha...)

11-15-2005, 03:50 PM
Well, then everybody better check their opinion in quick, b/c the 5th is coming up really quick.
Also, I think that this event is worthy of another e-mail out, possibly sooner, with an RSVP date or something. I'll bring something small and useful for everyone if I have the money at the time. I'm still waiting for the scholarships to all come in so I have some disposable income.
Cheers,

Hi Barry,
Great idea. I will be there for sure this time. I am not planning any major auto repair tasks around that date which may disable my ride for a few days! :D I vote for the 5th. Moose Factory sounds good.

I'll give Barry a call tomorrow, I'm not sure if he's had a chance to book space at a restaurant yet. seems like the majority want this on the 5th, so I'll have to talk to my boss to see if I can switch shifts with somebody or take the day off since I normally work the evening shift on weekdays. as soon as I have some details to send out, I'll get them sent out.

P.S. Can we get something official done so that any of us can go? Let's get an e-mail sent out by tomorrow night.
6pm, Moose factory. There, it's official, now let's get an e-mail sent out and make a reservation.
Either that or we wait....
CanuckDave
12-02-2005, 12:39 AM
ok well as long as somebody can make a reservation for us (I can do it if need be) I'll send out a group email tomorrow. I don't actually know if I can make it, I have to try to trade shifts with somebody. I'm working a 6 day week this week, so that should work in my favour.. I'll probably be able to get out of that shift, just don't know for sure.

So I call them and all is good until she says:
"For a large booking like this we automatically add a 15% gratuity to the bill”. I said sure….
It is under the name of Earl and The Edmonton Supra Club. So if you get there before 6 you can just get seated. I will come straight from work but the last time I went south from downtown it took way too long to get anywhere.

15% aint bad... its better than vons steakhouse, i believe that last time a big group went there it was 23 or 25%.

Well thinking about it, the 15% fair because with a large group and each having their own bill the wait staff usually gets F'd. I've been there.

It was a really good time for those that could make it out, and the 30% off steak night was a nice surprise. Helped me to keep my bill in the double digits instead of the triples. And sure the hostesses were hot, but what about the blond that was sitting behind me! I was obviously sitting on the wrong side of the table, as pointed out by Bob.
We'll have to do it again next year.
And there was much smack talk going around the table too, I think I told Dave to buy a real supra at least three times. There are high expectations for next season, so it sounds like time for me to spend another couple G's to make sure everything goes as planned.
To respond to your question, there wasn't room for Herby in Earl's car, so I left him at home. He doesn't like the cold anyhow.

P.S. On a sidenote, the supra won car of the year from motor trend in 1982 (found that while doing research).
Supra_devil
12-08-2005, 06:45 PM
82, 83, and 85 i thought it won.
and Dave, don't lie, mk3's weigh more than 3600lbs, tim told us his was 3700, and he has the lightest year.
a sweet sleeper supra would be an 81 with a 7mgte pushing 20psi or so. lightest year EVAR and tons of power, sweetness.
Deep_Blue
12-08-2005, 11:19 PM
I knew you were going to bring up the weight of my car! Sure it's 3700 pounds.
With me in it.
And a full tank o' gas.
And my duffel bag of stuff for the week in the back.
And fluids in all the necessary places.
But you drop all of that and it doesn't even way 3500lbs.
Even with oil and all the other necessary fluids, and I'll even give you a FULL tank of gas, it still doesn't weigh 3600 lbs.
It weighed, if memory serves me correctly 3746 lbs. when I weighed it, and I weighed almost 190 at the time (I'd been porking out lately), and my duffel in the back weigh in at about 50-60 pounds, so that 'd be a little under 3600.
Despite what people say, 3600 isn't even heavy for a car these days, most of them are well over 4000. C6 corvettes are just a bit under the MK III, and the viper is less than 100 under a MK III. The only reason that supras get a bad rap for weight is because they are not compacts, and they always get lumped in with compacts, making them look like fat pigs. They are much more in the stream of the american muscle cars of the time such as the C4 corevette, or an F-body.
That's just my 2 psi.
As for the oft misquoted horsepower of a C5 that I have been told I won't be able to pound in the summer, well it runs 345 crank hp, and 350 crank torque, minus 15% for drivetrain slop brings us to: 293 rwhp, and 297 rwtq right off the dealership floor. If I run a strong 320 It should be a pretty fair fight, but I admit that is better than I thought. I'll keep working on the Z06s though, they'd still beat me good.
Cheers,
Tim

curb weights
C6 (2006) Vette: 3179lbs
C5 coupe ('97-'04): 3245lbs
C4 coupe ('91-'96): 3298lbs
thats certainly more than "a bit under" the weight of a mkIII, 300-500lbs is a pretty big difference.
what cars are you referring to that are over 4000 lbs?
bench racing is fairly pointless since there are so many variables, but I still don't think you'll be able to beat a C5 unless you're going to run much wider tires. A C5 can do a 13.3 sec. 1/4 run stock..
Despite being heavy, MkIIIs are still great cars, don't get me wrong
http://www.supraclub.ca/images/mkiii-piggy.jpg
I just can't resist ragging on them a bit ;)
James Earl
12-09-2005, 07:19 AM
So with me in the car, full gass & fluids, and the same for the car. A duffel bag stuffed with the last MKii owner who pissed us off (ignore that), the tool set required to get the car to any destination.....my car could out weigh an armoured vehicle?
Not bad now just paint it pink like the picture above and pull one of the plug wires and a Mkii might be able to keep up to me up hill on ice!
(Please note that talking smack is meant to be fun and no Supra should ever be painted pink as that would be crule.)

don't get me wrong tim, i love mk3's too, but when weight is talked about i will bring it up EVERY TIME that mk2's are lighter, several hundred lb's makes a big difference. You may also notice i mentioned a mk1 supra being the lightest ever, well thats cuz it is. Hell, if corrola's made real power i would mod one of them since they are like 2400lbs or something like that. thats another 500 off my car.
PS, viper stats i saw said 3,460 lbs at one source, 3380lbs/1533kgs at another, rated at a low 12 sec 1/4 mile with "only" 450 crank HP. and yes corvettes make the 300rwhp, but 50rwhp is 1000 dollars away with a cam and headers. and more is readily availalable after that. The thing with vipers and corvettes is that FG and Alu have been used A LOT, as opposed to the battleship hulls that were used to make the supras. the part that pisses me off is that MK1's had stainless steel rockers and lower rear quarters iirc. thats is something i wish mk2 and mk3 supras had.
I love mk3's, hell, every time i drive Earls i start thinking of buying it, but i like them for different situations, they are great highway cars, and fun in long sweepers and around town, but on a sharp track, or autoscrossing the weigh becomes too much of a hinderance, it can be overcome, with money and parts, but again, the same money and parts on an already lighter car will net even better handling results.

I was asked by Dave which cars I was referring to over 4000lbs but been to busy lately to have time for a good response, so I hope this suffices:
Chrysler 300 SRT8 (or the reg. model) : 4046lbs
Dodge Charger SRT8 (other guises as well) : 4160lbs.
Lamborghni Murcielago: 4070lbs.
Ford Mustang: Too fat for them to even say on their website!
Aston Martin Vanquish S: 4133lbs.
Cadillac DTS: 4009lbs.
Jaguar XKR Convertible: 4042lbs.
Saturn V Rocket: 6 300 000lbs.
Those are some examples off of the top of my head.
Cheers,
Tim

Saturn V Rocket: 6 300 000lbs.
well it may be 6.3 million pounds, but its got 7,500,000 lb/ft of thrust to back that weight up (and thats only from the first stage :o)
