Hey all.

So...I've finally made headway in my build research. Top secret shit, ya know?

Here's a preview of the compressor map. Mines a little different, but this is the closest I could find to what I'm doing.

Also, the second pic is of my turbo supplier, cut down. Once the cars in the public eye, I'll release all info :P If I can make this work, I think they might see a little more business from the Supra community.

More updates will follow as parts arrive.

So the first big shipment of parts have arrived :hyper: I'll get some better pictures once everything arrives...

986 Fuel system, breather kit, pulleys and cam gears

987 Modified cam covers to fit the breather kit (think PCV valve, times 100)

988 Electric water pump, water/meth kit, ETS intercooler. Might see if I cant polish this up a little before it goes in.

989 Injector Dynamics 2200cc injectors...mostly useless to me now, but here's for futureproofing :D 1400 WHP on alcohol anybody?

NEXT SHIPMENT:
-My Momo seats are here, along with a few goodies...
1008
-Carrillo H-beams with Carr bolts...way overkill...but if you're going to do it once...

-And Mahle coated full race pistons...0.020" overbore. Apparently thats the only size they sell them in, or i would have gotten .040 over.

very nice ! i was contemplating the phr breather kit, thats cool how they will weld those fittings on for you too.

if you look at the tank itself can you see how their baffles are setup?

+1 on vipec

this shit looks serious!!! eta for completion?

I'll see if I can't get a better pic of the tank for you tomorrow. They'll even polish the cam covers for a little extra.

Plan is to finish within the next 3 weeks. I'm actually hoping to have it done and motor broken in for the supra nationals in Mission, BC. If I'm not spotted around etown before then, you'll definately see me at the meet at the end of the month.

And this is just phase 1 :D By the end of the summer, I'm hoping to have a widebody kit ordered at the very least, maybe even installed. Over the next few years, I'm looking into a stroker, possibly a 6 speed swap, and much more.

Sorry man, can't actually see into it well enough to say.

So my Driveshaft Shop chromoly driveshaft has arrived :D. I'll get a pic once I get the car in the shop...good to compare the 1 piece chromoly setup with the factory POS 2 piece.

For those who might be interested, the guy I talked to at the Driveshaft Shop mentioned that they'll be releasing a carbon fiber driveshaft with CV joints within the next 1.5-2 months for the MKIV.

I heard that the DS shop ones vibrate bad. That is why a lot of supra owners don't run them. Let us know when you got it running.

*Edit* Who do you plain on getting to tune the car for you?

I'm booked in to be tuned by Horsepower Solutions in edmonton...but as usual, I'll be playing around with the tune myself afterwards :P

Oh by, why would you want to mess with it when it's already tuned?

Good luck with that.

Gotta learn some how. Ive already made myself pretty familiar with the aem software. My current tune was a half ass job because my old tuner only had a short time to get it done...10.5:1 afr's and no ignition changes. Ive fixed most of it myself, learning as i did it.

Who was your old tuner?

A guy from calgary named sunny. He mostly does subaru. Has a 600hp awd dyno, think the brand was dyno-dynamics. Did a decent job considering the time constraints.

More stuff has arrived :D

Titan Stage 2 A340E transmission. I thought it was rather nice of them to paint it black. Also there, but boxed, a Titan 3500 stall convertor and a full set of race bearings.
1009
And an HKS SSQV4 BOV...I have 2 :D

Didn't think there was an AWD dyne in Calgary. You recall the name of the shop?

Call up tunerworks, they found him for me. I think it was something like Skyboy tuning.

And so the build unfolds :P I unfortunately ran out of time since 4 of the 5 companies I had parts on order from decided to misplace or lose my parts. They all pretty much decided to just ship a box or two each time I called them up to bitch.

Engine pulled

exhaust side

from the ass

The block, disassembled. It was sent to ProStock for machining just after.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=472

Mostly empty engine bay.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=473

Glenn scrubbing my engine bay :p I decided he would make a good housewife after this. All BS aside though, the guy does good work.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=474

Fuel pumps, installed into the new hangar. I still have some wiring to finish up...apparently, I need to find some solid core wires for this, it seems other people have had fuel leaching out through stranded copper.
http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=475

Gauge cluster, with the new TRD gauges.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=476

The block, back from being bored out, showing crank and ARP main studs.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=477

The old, ugly oil cooler/filter adapter.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=478

The new oil block adapter, shiny anodized goodness. Connects to the cooler and remote filter.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=479

One of the oil squirters. The new pistons interfere with them, so I had to bend it so that it sat more in the middle of the piston (they are slightly offset, stock).

The assembled block, only missing the oil pickup and pans.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=481

Since I hadn't received the new head or turbo yet, I put the old stuff back on temporarily. You CAN see the new pulleys and electric water pump pretty good though.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=482

My new Stout fiberglass hood. You can see the radiator and turbo cooling vents, but there's also a small scoop on the front for intake air. I'm going to be looking at getting an airbox made up so that I can take full advantage of it.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=483

Seibon trunk lid. Trying to order a Lexan window to fit it, but alas, the money gods think I should wait a little longer.

http://supraclub.ca/forums/picture.php?albumid=84&pictureid=484

And FINALLY, the stupid turbo has arrived, and I can unmask it :bounce:. The next struggle will be in adapting the 3" v-band turbine inlet to my T4 manifold. I introduce you all, to the Garrett GT3788VA. Upgrade for the 6L Ford Powerstroke. With further upgraded 68mm compressor wheel. For those who aren't familiar with diesel turbos, this is a variable vane turbo. Imagine a turbo big enough that it SHOULD spool around 4000 rpm, but instead hits it at 1800-2000 give or take a few hundred, just my guestimate...I haven't found anyone else who has fit one to a 2JZ, so I have no real baseline. I'm further hoping to have the turbine wheel and vanes ceramic coated, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get around to that.

I'd be careful running a VNT turbo on a gasoline engine. They don't like the higher EGTs that tend to be present in this application.

I'd be careful running a VNT turbo on a gasoline engine. They don't like the higher EGTs that tend to be present in this application.

I was hoping somebody would mention that. I would like this chance to clear up some confusion that seems to occur around this topic.

When people make that claim, they are running off of old assumptions about old technology. Notice how half the claims of proof are about the old VNT Shelby. You cannot tell me that a car only sold in 1989, more than 20 years ago, is our only real baseline. The turbo (the VNT25, I think it was designated?) was so crappy, it would quickly burn itself out if it saw 1000F EGT's.

I'm not saying that they aren't still temperature sensitive, but the gap between VNT and regular turbos is closing rapidly. For example, the Porsche 911 has small twin VNT's made by Borg-Warner...and it can run all day at 9.8:1 compression and 500 bhp.

My turbo, unmodified, can take a continuous 1400F for a full minute, and can run all day at 1300F without risk. After talking to several companies that modify these trucks and have raced with this model, I was also convinced that it could take an instantaneous 1600F with minimal risk. These numbers are what a modified street car would only see at WOT.

Between a thicker head gasket that lowers compression to 8.2:1, and my water/meth injection...I think I might hit 1400F at high RPM for my track tune. On the off chance it IS an issue, an even thicker 2mm headgasket will lower me to 7.8:1 compression. I'm honestly not worried. If anything, the quick spool will make the lower compression a moot point.

that stout hood is pure awesome.

just a thought, have you looked into a billet timing belt tensioner bracket? i have read that the oem piece can fail when 600ft/lbs is thrown at it. its one of those better safe than sorry mods.

things are coming along nicely!

Actually, I have the billet tensioner bracket too :D I've done as much as I can to make sure this build will last. I think my weakest part will be my transmission now, and I don't think I'll quite hit the 800 hp rating they gave it. And even if I do...there's guys hitting 1100+ on the strip with it.

The turbo controller. Had it for a bit...but it's still a work in progress for them, hence a non-adjustable 3600 RPM uppermost breakpoint. Built for diesel, revs like diesel. They're working on a patch for it that should be released in January which will allow breakpoint changes, as well as add a couple features. I'll update with pictures when I get their final edition.

UPDATE...for the like 3 or 4 people who have actually read through my rambling:

My head is supposed to be finally shipping out right away here, along with the black friday goodies, a custom tranny cooler setup, and a Powerhouse IS300 rad shroud/fan kit. And since the AEM has rather crappy auto tranny control, there will be a PCS controller soon. I also added a Chase Bays mil-spec harness to the list. Firewall harness quick-connects FTW!
