which bodykit would u guys prefer on the mk3 supra?
http://members.aol.com/akiraneo/kits.html
and does anyone know if the bomex front lip is a complete bumper or just a lip?
thanks
CanuckDave
11-06-2005, 06:07 PM
the bomex appears to be a full bumper, judging by this http://members.aol.com/AkiraNeo/bomex1.jpg I'm pretty sure thats what Scott's (89Supra) kit is.
Personally I like the greddy front end.

you can eithur get a full bumber or a couple different lips from bomex. I personaly like the hiro.
CanuckDave

yeah, the hiro is pretty nice looking, except for the double wing :weak:

yeah i was gonna say that but i forgot. but it needs a wing other then stock but less then two wings glued togethur...

if your going to change, get good stuff. i know the factory wing on the turbos did actually decrease the drag coeffiecent of the car, by like .01 or something, not much, but its still something. So imo, if your going to change, change up to something that will do more. same for the body kits, if your going to get something, get something rigid enough and with proper vents to direct air to the IC and rad and to prevent as much air from going under the car, possible even see if any of the kits have an option for a lower block off plate to prevent as much lift on the car from high speeds.
now, thats all expensive, higher end stuff. But i belive in doing things as good as possible.
< will one day make a complete sheetmetal undertray for his chosen race/track car.

Hey Ken!
If you're planning on buying something for your car, I've always liked this combo: Stock 89 Front end, east bear front lip (rare! But one's for sale on ebay until tomorrow [November 7]) or the upcoming Carbonfibre FX front lip, Kaminari sideskirts, doluck (don't remember if it's #1 or #2) rear bumper, and either the stock 89+ spolier, a regulus spoiler, bomex whaletail spiler, or a special spoiler Byson Kriz showed me and has on his car (almost exactly like the stock 89+ but without the center section and a couple of other minor changes). If you want to go the carbonfibre spoiler route, I also know a really nice one of those, and it ACTUALLY looks good on our cars.
That's my humble opinion anyhow. I'm not getting any bodykits for about three years or so, and that's if I decide to get them, I like the stock look for the most part.
Cheers!

Yea any idea how much it would cost to get the trim groovees filled in? That is one of my major plans before i repaint. Either that or get the white moulding to match the colour of my car.

Personally I'd find matching trim, to me it just looks like something is missing if its filled in..

I personally am not crazy about most of the body kits. I like the car the way it is stock. The only thing i would do is remove the black front lip that is stock(mine is gone) and replace it with a same body color one that is about the same size as the stock one with a couple of vents. I like the stock 89+ wing also. The Bomex kits are alright tho because they are not over done for the most part like the one scott has on his.

Ask Randy Shawn I'm sure he spent a bundle. I know another local Sherwood Park supra that had it done, and it cost him $8000.
I think it looks fine, and another bit of variety to add to our club.

CanuckDave
11-07-2005, 01:07 AM
yep, thats the stock '89+ front end with the lip, which is a nice combo, the stock front end is clean but having a lip makes it look a lot better. If I get a mkIII ever again, I'll just do something basic like that, I'm not really a fan of body kits unless they keep with the lines of the body and look clean (and unfortunately kits like that are few and far between from what I've seen)

i would like to get a totally new front bumper because parts of my grill is cracked and that bugs me so if i were to get a new lip i would want a new stock bumper but i rather change it to something with air flow to the ic/radiator
CanuckDave
11-07-2005, 05:40 AM
makes sense, well in that case, I'd say the Greddy front with turbo-a duct or the one made my carbon fibre FX would look the best, and be the most functional.

I was looking through some of the supra pics I have saved, and came across this one, to me this is a perfect example of a very very clean combo of front lip, side skirts and rear. that combo with the wheels is just gorgeous

Now the only way to get the Turbo A duct is through a custom company, I think you can get them from some companies that sell supra parts. It originated from the Turbo A MK III, a special factory-tuned MK III that had a number of special parts. Finding a factory Turbo A duct is pretty much impossible. I recommend keeping an eye on the forums for them (supramania and supraforums). Also, If I recall correctly, Adam aka. Dr. Jonez was selling one, and he could probably tell you where to get more. I could swear that suprasport used to sell them...

hey guys !!
So Tim says the soapra eh, meh i dunno, im not sure i really like them, im a real big fan of the original stock supra styling, the only thing i would do is add a bomex lip and/or maybe cut out the middle like we discussed before, i REALLY like the look of that white supra with that 2JZ looked pretty sweet, and as for shaving the side mouldings, i really like that too, thats another thing i want done on my car, but for 8000 $?? sounds a lil steep to me, or maybe you guys were talking about something different ? w/e all the same no matter wut you do to them and how you do it SUPRA'S ROCK MY SOCKS !!!!!!! <--- lol !

bodykits look like ass unless they are done properly. A body kit only looks good if it is made to look like there is no add-ons at all. I see to many bodykits with seams that don't line up right, have gaps between the kit and the body, or aren't painted right. I believe one should either spend the exttra time and cash to have it installed and painted right.
Deep_Blue
11-08-2005, 09:49 AM
I really don't like the Kaze kit (and that's understating it, but I don't want to get banned for language use). I know that Acroth uses one, but I just think that it is way too much. It screams "look at me" and not in a good way. The lines don't match up with the original flow of the supra at all, they try to run right over it instead. IMO the worst body kit there i.s. That's why I recommend the greddy one, because it looks like something that the car would come with from the factory. But I dislike pretty much every body kit. I'm so much more of a go fast guy, so they don't come up on my radar really.
Cheers,
Tim

That kit is just a ripoff of the Kaminari. So, if you like that then just buy the Kaminari. It's probably higher quality too. That's actually the same picture that Kaminari advertises with. They pretty much just ripped off everything.

a lot of jdm engines came without an EGR.. my 6M has none (well it did at one point - somebody put one from a 5M on, now I'm blocking it off), and I've seen it posted elsewhere that the 7M has none. Not that car domain is the most reliable source of info, but this is on a member's page:
JDM 7M-GTE (same as US spec except no EGR and has a different throttle linkage).
those are the only differences, that and the fact that the wiring harness is shorter because it goes to the other side of the dash.. besides that the USDM and JDM 7Ms are the same.
here's a thread on mkIIItech about it

exhaust gas recirculation. it recirculates some exhaust into the intake to slow down combustion which causes a cooler running temp and less emisions. its bad however because it increases the intake temperature, leaves deposit in the intake which are bad, dirty.
from a performance point of view, an EGR system is never good. and in alberta, well, we can do whatever we want without fear of tickets like Cali.

well you can get rid of everything except that, legally the catalytic converter falls under exhaust, and in Alberta modifying your exhaust is illegal (doesn't mean a lot of people don't do it, or that you're likely to get ticketed for it, but if a cop were to look under your vehicle and see no cat, you're going to be getting an exhaust ticket)

oops my bad, somebody had said it was illegal and quoted a secction of the highway traffic act which was unclear but seemed to imply that any exhaust modification was illegal.
an RCMP officer posted this:
As of this date there is nothing illegal about removing just the converter from an exhaust system as Alberta has NOT YET adopted emissions testing. The HTA (Highway Traffic Act) no longer applies as it has not been in existence since the TSA (Traffic Safety Act) took its place in May of 2003. The VEH (Vehicle Equipment Regs) is still in existence but has been re-written to compliment with the TSA.
Remember, this applies to Alberta & not such provinces as B.C. etc that have emissions / safety inspections in place.
