Protect from stone chips, but think about what it is like to have a wet towel constantly in contact with your hood. Not a big deal for the plastic bumper, but this fact definitely promotes rust in a big way. Also, it is kind of like having someone rub up against your paint with their jeans all thi time, which is an issue if the bra is loose at all and allows movement.
I have even heard of some guys that will put a fabric bra on for long road trips and remove it as soon as they get to their destination for this reason. Plastic wind deflectors avoid this problem, and control wind but these aren't appropriate for some vehicles.
The 3M film is a really good way to go.

Dibs.
It only matters if your paint didn't come out of a can of Tremclad.

I have a MkIII bra, I do believe it is impeccable condition and comes with the headlight covers.
If anyone wants it, let me know.

My car bra keeps the dust, dirt, mud, snow, slush, insects, bird droppings, etc. away from my finish. All of these elements conspire to not only fade the paint. how come it went bad to your paint?

It is not that bad for paints. Actually, my dad's Chevy K3500 Car Bra (http://www.thepartsbin.com/guides/chevy/k3500/car_bra.html) keeps his car protected whether he parked inside or out garage. Nothing went wrong with it's paints also. Plus, what i like most in his car bra is that his the one who chose the design.

the reason people don't like them is because they can flap in the wind when driving at speed, so it sits there flapping and beating against the paint, over time wearing at it. its especially worse at highway speeds, but it is sometimes prefered to the rock chips and thousands of bugs that we would otherwise get on the front end.
myself i will go spend my money on 3m rockguard, looks better, protects better and i don't need to remove it for cleaning or anything else.

The "problem" with car bras is that when dirt, sand, etc.. gets between the bra and the paint it causes a friction similar to that of sandpaper. Over time it takes a toll on the paint.
