Wondering about price and availability on:
-the mechanical speedo sender on the r154 (apparently the same on w58 )
-and some late mk3 turbo engine mounts (the round ones)
Thanks

best bet on mounts is to order a set of poly ones from a place like suprasport.

For the "mechanical speedo sender," what exactly do you mean? The sleeve that the driven gear mounts into, that the cable then threads into?

Yes, the part that the cable threads into. Phew, I'm surprised at the price on those mounts. Thanks for checking.
Please let me know

If my speedo isn't working.. is it likely it's a part of the speedo sender cable?
Or is it possible it could be the speedo gear inside the tranny?
My tach works so I'm assuming my dash is getting power.. but no speedo.

speedo is mechanically driven.
I suggest disconnecting the cable from the transmission and manually spinning the cable (with a drill or something) if the speedo registers, the problem lies with the speedo gear in the tranny, if not, one of the cables is bad. Most likely to be one of the cables is the problem.

That's why i said some poly aftermarket ones would be a better option. Also remember there is an ~80 degree 'elbow' for the cable that screws onto the output for the speedo drive on the transmission before the cable.

No there isn't.

Hey I didn't know that.. thought it was an electronic signal like my RSX.
Damn old cars.. don't understand them. :p
Cool trick though, thanks for the tip looks like I'll give that a try first.
Does the car have to be "on" for it to work though? Or is everything literally all mechanical.

The speedo is entirely mechanical. If you were coasting downhill, engine off, it'd read out your speed, and count up the odometer.

How fast should the drill be spinning? The one I used didn't spin very fast.. however the needle didn't even bounce or budge at all.
I think I need new cables.. :(
On the plus side since I've owned the car, I fixed both rear wheel bearings, replaced wheel studs on rear driver side, fixed the deck, got tail lights working and put in a decent working tranny.

is that only a mk2 part then?
Yes sir, on the A70 they got rid of the adapter, it goes straight to cable.

Wierd. Definetly needed on the mk2, there isnt near enough length without it.

I just thought of something.. Does it matter what direction the cable is spun?
I'm pretty sure the drill was spinning clockwise. Is that ok or should I have put it on spinning counter clockwise?

yeah. It doesn't show your speed in reverse.

Agreed, you need to spin the cable the correct way to get it to read.
