If I polish the inside of the intake and exhaust components to make them smooth and flow better, will this have any side effects? Is this a good thing to do while I have them removed from the car anyways?

Hey Simon!

From what I understand it's cool if you polish the xhaust, but the intake affects the way that the fuel atomizes, so it's not recommend to polish the inside of it because the air won't tumble properly then, but, this is only vaguely remembered from somewhere, so don't live by it. Also, with a turbo puching the air through the intake, I don't know if the tumbling princple applies in the same way.

Cheers,

Tim

P.S. What 550 injectors are you using?

EDIT: Nevermind, found an old post where you said you were using RCs!

thanks for your input. I'll probably be posting a lot of odd questions as I try to install a mhg myself...probably a lot of "where the hell does this go?" and "what happens if I do this?" sorta thing

Hi Simon,

That could be a good idea. Smoother flowing air flowing into the intake chamber and into the head could produce more power. I do not know how much more power as I have not done this myself. But you will have less friction and smoother air flow. This is what you want. With a turbo bolted on, as Tim mentioned you will have more compressed air flowing into the chamber and into the head. I would research the cost on it first. I do not know if it can be done or not. I think the best bang for your buck if you are bent on polishing something would be your head. Get that ported and polished. You will see a nice improvement over stock with lower boost. I think it is pricey to do, but worth the cost.

Hope this helps,

Mike Nikolai

Well worth the cost to port & polish the head.

it depends how much you polish and where you polish, doing the runners, plenum and throttle body is cool. polishing the ports too much is where fuel atomization becomes an issue. Myself i would just get the intake all port matched and call it a day, that will improve flow and get rid of some "bad" turbulance while still leaving it enough to atomize the fuel very well.
