View Full Version : Hydro pump + looped lines?

I'm trying to find out if my hydro water pump on my 1jz is going to last if I just loop the hydraulic lines (I dont have the fan or controller). Is the water pump lubricated by the coolant (like every other water pump), or does it require the use of hydro fluid?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

You run the risk of overheating the hydro fluid in the loop by just doing that. If you want to keep the hydro pump on there, run the loop through a small cooler, even a piece of metal pipe.

Your other alternative is to just use a water pump off of a 2JZ Supra. It'll bolt up (if you have both the pump, and the back housing), and doesn't have the hydro pump.

Hmm,

So I take it from your comment that the shaft of the water pump is lubricated by the hydraulic system? If thats the case, I agree about the potential to overheat the fuild if its not circulating.
I picked up a non hydro wp from another 1J and plan to keep it as a spare just in case.

Has anybody on here ever ran a hydro pump with looped lines?

mine was looped pump to resavior, back to pump. I could see the fluid flowing, but it was an ugly setup. I have since then swapped 2j/na pump
