Hey everyone!
I saw a similar thread over on the Edmonton Prelude Club at 780,and I decided to start one of my own over here.
Bascially, just post what you plan on getting done to your car over the winter.
Well, my car is away now in it's brand new garage (built with a kit, review coming soon). As for what I plan on having done to it by next season, well let's see:
Tanabe cat-back
BIC Testpipe
BIC Ceramic Coated DDP
HKS 1.0mm stopper type gasket
ARP Head studs
New Valve Cover Bolts
New Vacuum Lines
Regapped spark plgs
New Spark Wires
R4S Porterfield Brake Pads all the way around
Resurfaced Stock Rotors
Speedbleeders on all four corners
Change over to Motl Brake Fluid
Change Oil
Change Diff and Tranny with Royal Purple again
Lexus AFM
RC 550cc injectors
Bosch type Recirculation Valve
APEX-I SAFC II
APEX-I AVC-R
Greddy Turbo Timer
Find out why there's A white/light grey smoke coming out from under my exhaust heat shield...
That's all the new stuff I'll have done by the beginning of the next season or shortly after the beginning. I already have most of the parts, but I'm not putting them in until around March/April for most of them.
Estimated next dyno is going to be around 320rwhp I think, and gobs of torque (yay CT-26!)
So, what are you guys doing?
Cheers,
Tim

Well with my limited incoming supply of money for the current time, it alldepends on how much i drink over the school year haha. But my hopeful plans are:
Bodywork/newpaint job, get rid of the rust and whatnot.
3 new tires to match my one new tire that i currently own.
New suspension all around.
rebuild my tranny and treat her to some nice new syncro's
and that should pretty much take care of my spring upgrades, hopefully if i get a raise this summer at the mine i will be able to soak some more cash into her.
Edit: Also going for some sway bars and strut bars.

Nothing...fix what falls off, thats about it.
Shawn,
It is good to see your list, I regret that I had to buy a motor before I could get to the items you mention. Too many people have spent all the cash on "go fast" and not fixed the basics.
What are you thinking for your suspension? I was thinking of getting rid of the tems and spending the big bux on coilovers. But that will not be for a long time.
The tranny rebuild, I priced all the syncros to just under $300 and I guessed another $150 for clips, pins, oil, etc. Much cheaper that having a shop do it. I was looking into buying a used r154 to rebuild, swap then rebuild the second one for sale for cost to club members. With luck I will find the time soon.
I recommend ST bars & springs. Price is good and they work really well.

yea well thanx for the tips earl. I am not completely sure about what I wanna do for suspension. I might only match up my back tires for this summer and save myself a couple hundred bucks. My other tires should last me another summer easily. I was gunna try and get some nice coilovers, i should be getting over two grand spare in cash from my income tax return and so i figure i could get some half decent suspension for that.
For the sway bars i was probably looking at that kit that you had mentioned in the review section, were exactly might one pick one of those up? Also the strut bars i was looking at since i have a targa top i think the extra stability would be a good idea.
As for rebuilding my tranny i am gunna try and get my uncle to do it for me over the winter so i don't lose any driving time in the spring, plus he gets half off his parts and gives me them at his cost, so i get a deal there.
The paint job is a maybe for the spring while it really needs it these upgrades rather than the looks for now. It looks like i am going to eb buying one of those portable sheds for the winter for it, and then depending on my job for the summer will tell weather or not the paintjob comes in. Also just a little idea i had, what do you think about not putting the moulding back on and just leaving the grooves as smooth lines.
Peace

Hey Shawn,
I got my anti-swaybars through a group buy for about $300 CAN (landed)
I know Mopac quoted me $305 + tax for the ST springs.
I would call our suppliers to see who will give you the best landed price on both parts.
I might get a set of springs soon cause the H&R's I have are too low for me. I posted them for sale a while back if you want low low springs.

EDIT: I have been told that the ST springs are exact spec to the TRD springs for this car and ST was the OEM supplier for Toyota back then.

Shawn,
For suspension I would go bother Trowa into selling his Tein FLEX coilovers. He gave me a rough quote of about 1400-1500, and I bet he'd knock the price for your stock struts and springs (not sure if he still has his).
As for smoothing out your mouldings, it looks pretty good if you can do it, just check out Randy's car at www.bicperformance.com . He did his himself, but with metal I think, from what I understand, bondo will fall apart.
It's a cool idea though.
Looks like a lot of sweet stuff to be done over the winter though!

sorry to go off topic here, but since you mentioned Randy's car I though I should post a pic, saw it out in Kelowna at suprafest and I was drooling over it, my favorite mkIII of the ones I saw there. the shaved mouldings look really good.

as for my plans this winter.. park the car and make money to afford everything I want to do to the car :)
list of my plans
- get 6m and running NA, then turbo it.
- centerforce dual friction clutch (one for the 7m-ge or 2jz-ge, since both use the w58 but have higher power handling than one made for the 5m)
- Konig rewinds (bronze with polished lip probably) with new rubber, and some wide sticky tires (BFGs or something?) mounted
on stockers for the drag strip.
- suspension: st springs, undecided which shocks/struts to get. camber mod for rear crossmember. possibly sway bars.
- swap in 3:73 rear end. 4:30 is nice for launching, but sucks for milage and the 3:73 should be better for holding more power.
- try to fix some rust and interior peices (need to find a new driver seat bolster)
- brembo rotors and KVR carbon fiber brake pads
- stainless steel brake, clutch lines.
- megasquirt would be nice but probably won't happen (I'll just get things running with the rrfpr first and go from there)
- get new muffler and get exhaust flanged and welded.
thats about all I can think of at the moment
lots of work to do.
when I get bored over the winter, I'll probably work on polishing up some parts to bling out the engine bay :D

Hey Corey!
That sounds like a really sweet idea!
I didn't know you were planning on doing that!
You shouldn't have to much trouble finding a MKIV front clip, but I hope you're prepared to pay through the nose to get one!
Hopefully you'll have this done by the beginning of the spring and you can bring it to our next dyno, that'll sure get you a leg up on everyone!
What else are you planning on doing to it? (single turbo, new exhaust, etc.)
I'm not sure whereabouts you live, but if you need help putting it in, just give some of us a call and we'll give you a hand!
Have a good one buddy!
Cheers,
Tim

well im looking for the twin turbo ... just cause you know twins are always better  :bounce:, but im also looking to get
a new exhaust system ... after further discussing routes with glenn ... i basically wanna just cut out my cat and egr but i want
a NEW TRD Racing pipe i know theres lots more others out there like borla and stuff but i guess the 3000 pipeis just cool hahha 8)
but yeah i think im just gonna go to an exaust place and look further into it :) quick question for you guys which do u think is the best
sounding/performing exhaust system for the MK III ???

just cut out the cat if its clogged. if your looking at doing a motor swap anyways then i wouldn't bother with an egr delete or full exhaust right now, its money spent that may not be the best for the new motor since you'll be going from 7m-ge to a turbo motor, the smallest a turbo car should have imo is 3", and 3" is way to big for a 3L NA.

i thought 18 year old bolts would come off easy...what was I thinking? It looks like my winter project might take all winter....

I use a product made by Gunk called Liquid Wrench Super lubricant and non-flammable penetrant with PTFE. For the really nasty stuff, I spray on, leave over night, and then I'll spray a little bit more on about a half hour before, and then pretty much anything will come off, it's a really good product!
Corey: I agree with the above posted by Glenn. Cut out the cat if you have to and have a test pipe thrown in, and then concentrate on getting the 2JZ, b/c it will take a fair bit of money to put into your car, and you'll want to hold onto all that you can to get it done.
Hope that helps!

Tim

Oh yea and score i got nice little garage for my supra so she will stay dry all winter in that harsh mountainous terrain also known as sparwood.

i know my plans, 3" turbo back, and then save money.
If Barry goes 1U then i will grab his motor, fix the oil leak, and put in cams as well.

since i owned my car i added a bov,hks turbotimer, some really unique rims from japan but i donty know the brand but has a deep lip on it, and gauges on the cock pit and other misc. interior bits.
aftrer winter i plan on doing the suspension, new intake, possible retint the rear windows or cancel all that and swap a jdm 7mgte in that biatch

Sounds good Ken!
If you throw out the engine, you HAVE to go 1JZ, "Why" you ask? B/C 1-your screen name would make sense 2-you'd be the only one in the club with a 1JZ, 3- for roughly the same price you would be up about 100hp, 4- They were built to go into your car, so it would take less work than putting them in a LHD, 5- I would be jealous.
Think about it!
In other news, I picked up RC 550s (with clips this time) in addition to the Venoms I have, so after they come in, the Venoms have to go. Other things I will have for sale in the spring include: My 440s, my current stock downpipe, and a custom three inch cat-back with what I believe is stainless piping and a little rust around flanges and the tips where welds were done (and a dent near the back muffler that could be cut out with a new section welded in no problem), my stock AFM will also be out the door most likely.
It's going to be a good winter!
Cheers,
Tim

OK, on topic again for me.
I think my car will not be parked for the winter. I do not use it as a DD now but it does get run a few times a week. I need to get a few things done to it for the better enjoyment of the season.
I will post an update in my Gallery thread as to what my plan is for the winter.

i was thinking 1jz but very hard to find parts on this side of the world so if the price is right i might be looking for a 2jz before next summer.

Fair enough, it'd be cool to have a 2J in your car anyhow, but I'll have to start advancing my plans on my car to make sure I keep up. Line of credit here I come!

lol I gotta put big money into the drive train and suspension before I think about boosting hp. Maybe I'll dump a lil money into ignition, intake and exhaust, but I think it'll stay natually aspirated for a while.
And Before i can spend money on drivetrain, I wanna put money into body. Insurance is only paying for new paint on the left fender when it comes in, the rest of the body is faded. That and some minor surface rust that should get some attention.
And of course before i do that, I gotta get a new rear suspension. Mine's shot. Man, I don't even get an allowance, never mind line of credit!

I picked a new part up on a whim, so I'm going to add it to my list:
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b15/87supraturbo/CuscoStrutBar.jpg
It's a Cusco Front Strut Tower Bar, and it has a little bit of surface rust on the blue strut caps, so I'm getting them sandblasted and repainted Cusco blue.
Too good of a deal to pass up: only $100 from someone I previously did some business with. He was getting rid of it for a good price, thought of me, and gave me first dibs. Regular price for these is over $200. Have to pick up some spacers for it and 89+ Front TEMS actuators if you know anyone who has them.
I took some pics of a bunch of other stuff I got, but I'm going to keep them secret for now...
Cheers,
Tim

Horsepowerfreaks.com has had the best price so far at only $1100 shipped right to my door. Also i am still looking at getting the ST sway bars and probably a similar front strut bar to Tim's. I have alos talked my mom ito buying me all kinds of knick nacks for christmas haha allllright.
