View Full Version : Death to my beloved CT26

Well it is offical. Today at 9:45 pm my beloved CT26 decided to go to a better place. With one final courageous breath at .90 Bar she screamed her last words switching from first to second. Now she is a steady smoke blower, unwilling to produce boost, and if it is asked to, she screams the beloved metal on metal screetching noise.
When I removed the intake and accordian hose, I was successfully able to slide the shaft in and out quite a distance with ease, the turbine shaft would slide from side to side and touch the compressor walls.
Time to find a pre-owned CT26 for a good price for the time being and find a sutable successor.
I am thinking this. What are your thoughts?
Non polished compressor housing
TO4E approx 700HP
360 Deg Dynamic Thrust Bearing
Single Port Actuator
And ofcourse the stainless steel install kit with fittings.

Here is a toast to my good old and faithfull CT26. May you rest in peace at 194,000 kms. :toast:

Oh what a shame!
Bah! I like the pic of the setup you linked. I say do not delay! Oh my luck just keeps sucking with this car. My ct26 is still rock solid at 290,000 KM but the car wont run long enough to kill it.
Oh well, one day I will have your luck and have to upgrade. How long till it's in the car Mike?

Thank you everyone for your kind words and condolances. Just to give an update, I am temporarly installing a CT26 for the time untill I decide on what Turbo I am going to go with. As for the car, her nose is up on axle stands, and the old CT26 has been removed. I will be intalling the previously owned CT26 tomorrow. I figure by this time tomorrow I will be boosting again. The JBL Stainless Steel braided Oil Feed and Return lines that I bought last year sure made the turbo removal easier. =)
On a similar note, I had just removed my charcoal cannister. What are the side effects of leaving my charcoal cannister removed from the car permanantly?
A special thanks to Anthony to allowing me to buy his previously owned Turbo.

Hey Mike.
Good question. I am under the current belief that you can get rid of the canister as long as you don't plug all the lines up. The canister is there to purge fumes from the gas tank correct?
I remember reading of some guy who just purged the fumes right at his gas tank...
Of corse you must already know all of this. Later

Just searched Supramania for, "charcoal canister", got 8 or so results, nothing concrete.
I plan on doing this as well on one of the car's.
If you think you've got it figured out please let me know...Likewise,

Hi Sentara,
I did know that the cannister's main function is to purge fumes from the fuel tank. However there is the vacume line that runs from the cannister to the front of the engine, I do not recall off the top of my head. I seems to run to the thermostat housing unit via a metal line connection right below the air intake.
I know that Earl has his off and that it is not plugged. It has been suggested that I get a vented fuel cap, however I believe this would be applicable if the lines running to the charcoal cannister have been blocked. The response I got was not very informative.
If if find out more, and have this beat, then I will let you know. That cannister is a heavy unit and gets in the way of a Turbo removal! ha ha ha

Ummm... I read the whole thing and this is what I figured.
1. Plug the hose & get pressure build up in the gastank. Buying a vented (2 way) gas cap will solve this.
2. Leave the hose open & get fumes in your engine bay (like me) & risk blowing you the car (Big Boost?). You could run a hose down to the lower firewall to vent it below the car.
3. If you drive a Supra you are not an environmentalist. (Duh!) Mine uses more gas than my old 83 suburban with a 3 speeed auto in it.
4. Most of the people who posted the most usless shit on that thread came from the southern US states. (Must be the heat?)
Mike, next time we hook up we can see what was done on my car as I was not the one who removed it. Oh nobody covered removal of the EGR stuff. I can cover this in a DIY soon as I just cut half my vac lines out of the car.

EGR removal in the mk2 is simple, get barry to cut blocks off plates, or make em yourself, then you can cap the lines, or in 83+ remove almost all the vaccum lines completely. Note to all, removal of EGR on mk2 + mk3 Supras makes starters easier to do and makes tranny bolts easier to reach.
