...i was thinking the imperial march perhaps.
What better way to introduce my MKIII then to display it in its finest hour. Finally got the garage put together in a way that is conducive to tearing a head apart so here we go.

As you can see, not your stock 7M.
Constructive input and newb flaming welcome.
Oh yeah and if any one sees a manual boost controller lemme know. Fail...
Nah, the Imperial March is a little too majestic for a BHG... maybe one of the more ominous songs from the movies.
The car looks great, hope you get her all fixed up asap!
I have the steering wheel cover to match your floor mats, should you want it. ;)

A little off topic, but where did you get your IC hardpipes and BOV from?

i can get you a deal on a new boost controller from Mopac but i don't know of any used ones

The bov is HKS from toytech and the ic pipes are custom welded, not sure from where though.

Pipes look to be Cooleeze pipes. I may be wrong. Don't think that Cooleeze is in business anymore though.
The red paint on the timing cover is very trick. The interior is very, uh...... red, and manly.
What is the box next to the charcoal canister with the 2 cords coming out of it and the multiple white zip ties???

In that picture with the charcoal cannister, there's a little box next to the FP resistor. Black with 2 silver screws diagonally opposite and a red circle in the middle. That appears to be on the vacuum/pressure line from the turbo outlet to the wastegate. Is that not a boost controller solenoid? It also appears to have a wire coming in which looks like the wires from the aforementioned black box zip-tied to the charcoal cannister mount. That makes it look like an electronic boost controller to me...

My thoughts exactly, i havent done too much tinkering yet but i believe its controlled via the aem ems, but im not entirely sure. BTW the black box on the charcoal can is the o2 sens.

Ok, so throttle cables, dis modules and ign. wires, ps res. and alternator off today. Closer examination reveals stock fuel lines remain loose under the intake man. as well as unused harnessing and unpluged stock sensors, and multiple redundant vac lines.
Toytech for the fail.
Oh and forgot to mention the missing bolts and the ones i could undo by hand.
On a good note, i love how Toyota uses 12mm fasteners for everything.

So many vacuum lines....

they also use 10mm,14mm,17mm,19mm,21mm, dependant on whats being repaired, but those would be the only sizes you should need, unless some crazy imperial menace has changed all the bolts. Pardon the pun.
Dan_Gyoba

Still, 10, 12 and 14mm are the most common socket/wrench sizes under the hood. The T bolt clamps on my IC piping are the only imperial sized bolts that I have under my hood... Well, unless maybe another hose clamp or something...

Well there you have it. Prep in the morning and then assembly shall commence.

Looks like a good start. What are you going to do for surface prep on the head and block? Going with an OEM gasket?
In that picture with the charcoal cannister, there's a little box next to the FP resistor. Black with 2 silver screws diagonally opposite and a red circle in the middle. That appears to be on the vacuum/pressure line from the turbo outlet to the wastegate. Is that not a boost controller solenoid? Dan, the "aforementioned black box zip-tied to the charcoal cannister mount" is an Innovate LC1 wideband O2 sensor controller.
That, or it's doing a very good job imitating an LC1!

Thanks, Jim. That was already mentioned, but now I know WHICH Wideband it is.
Gotta get me one of those...

MISSION COMPLETE!!!
OEM gasket to 72 ft/lbs should hold. Zero head warpage and lots learned, time to plug the laptop in and fix everything else.
Things ive learned;
MHG + factory torque specs + poorly prepped surfaces = epic fail. (previous owner)
Trying to manouver around the intake manifold sucks.
MAFT rules.
An inline 6 head is heavy as fuck.
Bad shit i found during teardown;
Gasket maker everywhere.
Stock injector chillin in the engine compartment.
All stock sensors still installed and unpluged.
Poor vac hose install and wrong routing.
Stuff i could loosen by hand;
Both cam covers
ISC valve
thermostat housing
Main water housing (thank god for gasket maker)not!
multiple hose clamps.
On the whole im considering this repair successful, the later weeks ahead of tuning and tweeking shall tell a greater story im sure.
Bottom line, Im likeing the Supra for sure.

And testing continues.....
Still in the garage running heat cycles, cooling system isnt spitting out the overflow anymore or making any gurgling noises which is good.
As for the rest;
Fuel pressure - 25psi
AFR 10-13 cold, 14.5-16 hot (hmmmm)
Idle speed 1200 cold, 900 hot
EGT- 400c idle.
Right now im not sure what these values are saying, however i am yet to plug into the EMS to see what kind of data is happening. Perhaps a reset of the LC-1 and a reload of the base 7m map with accounting for MAF translation is in order.....
Definitely recalibrate your LC-1 before adjusting any tune values. Simply unplug the sensor from the controller, power up, power down, reconnect, and (making sure the air around the sensor can be used as a reference) power up again. If the person that installed the LC-1 also hooked up the little red LED light, you can see it blink through the warm up and calibration cycle. It takes about 20 seconds.
Your fuel pressure should be more like 30psi with vacuum attached.
Your idle speed... is that with AC off and all lights off?

Thanks for the info, and yes thats idle with a/c off (there is none) and electronics off.

Yes good stuff. I might have to do this on my targa LOL the pictures help too so I can see what I'm in for :P
