Hi all, I'm looking for info on swapping the complete power and drive train from a 84 supra into my nearly mint 86 cressi.. I just bought the cressi and the guy who sold it to me stp'ed the engine.. so I found a donor (very rusty 84 supra with a 5m and w58 that I can have whole.. any info on the difficuly of the swap (knock sensor?, clutch pedals and plumbing, shifter ect) the donor car is a 5m with 170 K's.

Drill and tap holes for the knock sensors and thread them n. 84 block should be the new style, which will have the spot for them, just not drilled and threaded yet.
Other than that, use the wiring harness in its entirety off your Cressida and just slap it onto the Supra 5M - no problems there. Oil pan is the same sump, so no changes need to be made. Use the entire powertrain from the Supra - the transmission will bolt right up, it's quite smooth.
Clutch setup can be stolen from the Supra as well - you'll need to fabricate a mount for the top mounting bolt on the clutch pedal bracket, and you might have to use the Supra brake pedal because it's narrower. Other than that, bolt it up and go. Shifter will sit too far forward using the mk2 transmission, you'll want to find the shifter housing from a mk3.
Driveshaft is the only trick. You'll want to find the front half of a mk3 Supra driveshaft. (Mk2 shaft MIGHT work, but I haven't measured, and I KNOW the mk3 front half does.) Basically, you pop the carrier bearing off the front half of the Cressida shaft and press it onto the front half of the mk3 Supra shaft, bolt the two together, and it fits like it was meant to be there.
Clutch lines can be finnicky at best, so use whatever works. Hard lines from the Supra should do okay. Master and slave cylinders can be swapped right over.
Everything in regards to the engine should bolt right up. Just make sure you use the Cressida 5M's throttle linkage, as they're different.

Thanks for the info Keenan, it's very detailed. I'm not sure where the knock sensor is located ( or should be) how deep I should drill and what structure I'm drilling into in the block, can you free hand it? how big is the hole needed to be? What kind of fabrication do I need to do to mount the clutch, I'm kind of a newbie to these cars and so I need a little more info before I tackle this kind of job... thanks again
Cheers
