you have to take the bolts off the pressure plate that screw into the flywheel in order to slide the tranny out!cant remember how many maybe like 8 or 6 I think they were 10mm

which gearbox? R154 or W58?

With the R154 you have to at least remove the clutch fork, and you're supposed to unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel via the access panels in the bellhousing.

If it's an R154, you can just pull the fork out. Nothing to undo there. If you don't take it out, your tranny isn't going anywhere! lol (It's a pull-type clutch)

it's a hell of alot easier to get the box out if you unbolt the PP as well

not a bad job if you have an air ratchet.

NOOOO!!!!!! you do not have to remove the PP.

all you need to do it remove the c-clip on the clutch fork, then pull out the fork.

Then the transmission will pull out, with a little bit of force.

I just did this about an hour ago to mine.

i didnt say you had to - just that it makes it easier.

especially when it comes time to put it back in, and you need to get the input shaft thru the release hub and located in the pilot bearing - its alot easier without the PP and release hub in the way.

Especially on my car - not nearly as much room to work.

You CAN remove the R154 without taking the PP off, but it's very tight.

It is however, almost impossible to re-install it this way. Do yourself a favour, when you re-install the transmission, slide the pressure plate and clutch onto the input shaft, bolt it up, THEN bolt the PP to the flywheel via the access panels.
