Ok, here is the situation. I have arranged to buy an 82 supra with a non-running engine (due to driving without oil) on monday. I can still back out, but will be making some people most likely very angry if I do. (it's in really nice shape, with newish paint, new shocks/struts, brakes, 2.5 inch straight pipe, fancy muffler... like NO rust, good interior, and only $600... but no good if I can't find a motor...) My question is, do you guys think I would be able to find an engine in the next 2 or so months that I could put into the supra? (I don't mind not getting it running for even a year, but don't want to buy it and have it sit forever not getting anywhere... nor would my dad allow it to sit there that long...) or do you guys think this is this a bad idea = try to work my way out of this deal...

By the way, I do have very limited knowledge in the engine swapping department, but will be doing it in my auto tech class with help from my instructor, IF I can get a motor before the end of the school year with enough time to get it in...

ANY advice is appreciated... I'm going crazy trying to figure out what to do...
Thanks!!!
Devin

pretty easy to find 5m's ussually. the motor out of my 83 is already spoken for otherwise i'd offer it up. if the car is solid then its definetly worth it IMO.

There likely is rust on the car you just haven't found it yet. And if it isn't obvious then I'll bet it's hiding under the newish paint. A non running car is a parts car until it runs. If all is unknown like brakes, bearings, ujoints, transmission, diff. etc. then you need to be prepared to adjust your expectations. I'd be very cautious, if they were careless enough to run the engine out of oil they likely didn't give a shit about the car. Good luck man.

Hmm that makes sense... And I do expect other things to have problems, but that I can deal with. Not having an engine to put in it, that's another story...
