i was gonna hide the fact that i own a yucky mk3 as well, but i figure its simpler to just admit it since car communities are too small to hide anything, lol.

Hey wait, I thought it was my car!

Don't worry Keegan, it'll be fine. At least we can follow it's progress and hover over Glenn like mother hens as he builds it!

Glenn, you better be putting that 1UZ you have sitting in your garage into atleast one of those cars.....

Supra_devil
09-07-2008, 11:00 PM
you mean MATT"S 1UZ thats going into his corolla?

i've personally test fit a 1uz into a mk2 using peewee's swap mounts, the 1uz fits like it was meant to be there, but for me the sound of a turbo straight 6 will always be my first love, while the rumble of a nice v8 will only be my mistress.

I think you're going to have to change your title, Glenn. You just bought a Mk2, and you've been hiding a Mk3 from us!

So, I guess now we all know Glenn wasn't just sticking around for the great company.

He definitely stayed just to make fun of keegan.

new addition to the car to assist in cooling.

Lapping day results from Stratotech, up to 10 minute sessions. While participating in this the car rolled over 170,000kms!

First i wasn't going to run this event, i bought a spot and gave it to my friend for his twin turbo 350Z track car, but most of the top ten point holders for both race tire and street tire classes didn't show up this morning, so home i went to pick up the car.

took the 83, completely bone stock with michelin pilots out, all i did was remove the air filter to let it breath slightly better, which it did. Had a complete BLAST, naturally. The car was probably the slowest thing there, but all things considered i think it held up pretty damn well for itself.

i expected 3 things, warped rotors, brake fade, and boiling PS fluid. i got 2 of the three, the brakes did fade, which is a given for these cars, and the PS fluid did boil over a bit. i had a brief scare with the brake/check engine light coming on because of the PS fluid leaking onto the alternator. removed the PS belt, and the AC belt to do that. The temp gauge would eventually start creeping up if i kept it in second the whole track, which was pushing almost to redline, so i had to use third just to keep things cooler a little bit.

The check engine light would come on after a few hard laps, then as soon as i started my cool down lap, or let it go below 4000 rpm for a little bit, it would go away.

had to tighten a wheel bearing, minor as far as i'm concerned, its so easy to do on these cars.

but really considering the age, very little went wrong. now i have to wait for a couple days till they update the time sheets online to get my times. Really curious to see how i did, not to compare against other cars, but to see how my times changed through the day.

there may possibly be another event this year, which i will plan to attend if it does go, there may be snow and then the track will be shut down.

in some ways i really hate to clutter it up with the 7mgte's IC piping. but then i remember that i like having power and it doesn't bother me anymore :P

Other than pulling the 7m from the donor car and parking the car for winter i haven't done much, but i did recently get these Ray's wheels. 17x8 31offset i am going to try and find some 8.5 or 9" hoops in lower offset for the rear so that i don't have to use spacers

5m is pulled, picked some of the parts off of it for the swap (engine mounts, oil pump, flywheel, etc.) and dropped the engine off to Keegan in calgary on monday.

on the negative side, i don't have an oil pan, i knew i wasn't going to use the one from the 83 so i left it on for transport/protection for the engines internals. If anyone has an 85+ 5mge pan and pickup laying around that they are willing to seperate with, please let me know.

hopefully today i will take some pics of the supra with the 7mgte sitting in place, but once that happens then the car will be getting truly mothballed for the winter, putting it against the wall to make room to finish the snowmobiles, and eventually to bring in a friends (Matt/Chromedragon, some of you may know him) AE86 corolla for a full race car build this winter.

i think i'll probably make a thread for shit i do on Matt's corolla as well just cuz its going to be so frickin cool. if so i need to see whats allowed to be posted and whats not. suffice to say there will definetly be some REALLY cool stuff going into his car.

It'll be cool to see the 7M-GTE conversion here, looking forward to it.

Also, the Corolla project sounds like it's going to be very interesting.

If you buy a new 85 pump, it comes with the correct pickup, so you just need the pan.

Supra_devil
12-03-2008, 10:40 AM
i wasn't sure if the new pump would include the pickup. if it does, thats perfect cuz i am going to buy a new pump for sure.

Good to see you're back in the game! And with a damn nice car too!

Now let's build this one to last at least a couple of summers! If we can all get these projects done and running at the same time, this club will be some fast.

well, i have started to order more parts. clutch goodies should be on the way. RPS max pp w/ organic disc (440ft/lbs capacity), new clutch master and slave, SS braided soft line, ARP flywheel bolts, pilot and release bearings. everything except the actual pedal and hardlines will be brand new :D all coming from aaron/rabid chimp

front AGX adjustable shocks will be coming as well, but those aren't going on right away. Aeromotive FPR, FP gauge, LJM strut tower bar, RC 550's, lexus AFM, new tail light seals and flare mouldings, new PS cooler, polyurethane engine mounts
some of the listed parts
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/SupraDevil/83%20supra/suprastuff003.jpg

as the car sat for the last how many months...

still need to get some things sorted out, 85 oil pan, new oil pump, full flow oil cooler and oil filter relocation, IC and piping (using stock mk3 stuff for this year just to drive it), and i should get a fuel pump but if need be i CAN drive it on the stocker but its not recomended. i need to double check if its internal or extrernal on this car before i buy one though.

But i am working towards getting it done, this car Will be out at meets this summer!

Supra_devil

bought my fuel pump, finally crawled under the car to check, and it IS an external on this 83 Supra. so it will take me about a half hour or less to change my fuel pump :P

order a new oil pump w/ pickup, new 85 oil pan and braided SS oil line kit from Rabid Chimp.

and i ordered the earl's oil filter relocation bits i need from Mopac here in Edmonton. still need to figure out what will be sufficient for the oil cooler, but its probably in stock, or i know a guy who might have one that he will sell me, new in the box still.

Only big thing left it to talk myself into a Raptor Racing DDP and 3" exhaust.

Funkycheeze

You mean new 85 pump right?

If you ordered that, you only need to find a used pan, not the pickup. I use a smallish oil cooler with NPT to AN adapters on it in my car - seems to do the job.

Supra_devil

85 pump w/ pickup ordered from Aaron/Rabid Chimp, as well as a NEW 85 pan from toyota through Aaron as well.

just called my buddy and he ended up using his oil cooler on his miata, so i'll probably be picking up one tommorow

nice ride, i had an 83 celica gts 22re same body with some upgraded cams it was alot of fun to drive. i wish i still had it.

btw 7m ddp is a must! :D you wont be disappointed

Supra_devil

i know the advantages of the ddp over a dp and especially over stock. just don't have 1200 bucks at the moment is the only real hold up lol

well i got my parts in from Aaron/Rabid Chimp last week. NEW OEM 85 oil pan, 85 oil pump, RPS MAX PP w/ organic clutch disc rated for 440ft/lbs, new clutch master and slave cylinders and soft line, AGX adjustable shocks. nice little package to brighten a guys day when i was feeling down :D
and then a friend of mine managed to get a pile of parts and in it was a brand new Spearco IC for a mk3, so i picked that up for $350 in town :D

so i guess i will bother to make new IC piping this year instead of using stock junk, since i have the IC already :D

fender gaps look bigger than they should since the engine/tranny and hood are removed currently.

friend is going to photochop it for me to get an idea of how it will look lowered.

wheels are some old school Rays, 17x8 +31 with about a 15mm spacer up front and a 1" spacer in the rear. 235/40's front and 245/40's rear.

this is also the first time my car has been completely out of the garage since last oct. or maybe sooner.

in this pic you can see how easy the actual bolting into place of this engine is. the bolts circled in red are where the mk3 engine mounts bolt, remove them and then bolt the mk2 mounts where the green bolts are circled. Done. the other side is similar, all the holes are already there just swap the mounts over.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/SupraDevil/83%20supra/7mgteswapstuff005a.jpg

however the brace (shown above) from this sides engine mount to the intake manifold won't work unless you shorten it and redrill the hole. Since i like to keep things as close to stock looking as possible i opted to do that instead of leaving it off like most people.

and the very far right lower green bolt (pictured above) is where the AC compressor mount also goes so the AC mount has to be ground down a bit so that it all goes together properly.

This picture (lower) shows where the stock mk3 oil dipstick tube went (in red) and the new one (in green). this has to be done since the mk3 is a midsump and the mk2 is a front sump. the boss is already there on the block you just have to drill it out carefully to the right size. The old hole we drilled out a C hair more, tapped it and plugged it with a 1/2" bolt, we had to turn the head down on it and slot it to go in with a screw driver, but its in there good and shouldn't be any oil leaks.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/SupraDevil/83%20supra/7mgteswapstuff003a.jpg

The stock front sump pan and oil pump from the mk2 bolt onto the block, the pump is retained with a different hole that same as the mount holes is already there and tapped, just bolt it in and go.

well, thats pretty much how the car looks again, except now the engine is a bit more complete than it was before. (ie. oil pan, dipstick hole drilled, polyurethane engine mounts in, etc.)

my wrist is taking its time healing, the corolla is more of a priority once i am better. i can't do the work all by my lonesome, i don't work well with others on cars, and i can't afford it without a job (which i can't get again till my wrist is healed)

not sure what exactly i am going to do to the car over winter once i'm working again. that will depend fully on how much i make on the next job and whether or not i get another snowmobile i guess.

but i'm still slowing getting parts as the GB's come up and as i find them, and the car will eventually be done, don't worry about that.

Oh, and if anyone knows a nice girl in edmonton, my hurt wrist also interfered with things, so feel free to send them my way j/k hahaha :P
