i just finished getting the headgasket repair done, and now i have a temp gauge that does not want to work, i have repaired all the broken or visually damaged wiring that i noticed during the repair, is there anything else i should check, i still have not looked at the fuses under the dash, i dont think they will have anything to do with it, but i thought i would check after work today.

thanks for any input.

Carl.

Factory gauge?

1. Check the wiring. The temp sensor wire at the water neck can come off pretty easily. Make sure that it's connected. If it is, you can verify that the rest of the wiring is working by having someone watch the gauge as you give the wire an alternate ground path. Go through a 12V lamp, like they use in those cheap circuit testers, or use a 50 ohm resistor. (TSRM says to use a 3.4W 12V lamp, so the test lamp is probably better, though I get a 50 ohm resistor as being similar.) If the gauge moves to the hot range with the lamp, the wiring and gauge is okay.

2. Check the sensor. The TSRM should have the resistance range for the sender. Put an ohmmeter on it when the engine is cold. Go warm it up and put an ohmmeter on it again. When warm it should show less resistance to ground. Ah, here it is, page BE-42 on the on-line TSRM (http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=BE&P=42).
