View Full Version : 5M-GE cams?
Heya, I know a guy with an 85 with 5M-GE that's looking for some mild cams, and I can't find anything for him. You guys know where I should be searching? Thanks!

Regrinds, basically. I think Jeremy knew a place in Vancouver that would do them reasonably.

I think that their webmaster is a bit confused though, since it lists the 5M-GE as a SOHC 12V, and we know that the "G" designation is for DOHC. I'll bet the guys doing the work know the score though.

I talked to the owner of Shadbolt. Great guy. They have a few different profiles for the 5MGE. I believe two TRD's and one HKS. I was quoted around 350ish and they pay return shipping. This comes with the shims that are required with regrinds as well.
As for new cams, good luck. None have been made for probably over 15 years now.
There was a time when you could buy blanks, but AFAIK they are long since discontinued as well.

350 isn't a bad price at all for cams.
I think I spent about 550 for my 1JZ cams.

Not to mention Shadbolt is a Canadian company...so canadian funds and no customs! :)

I will say though that when he spoke to me, the price that he mentioned was per cam, so double that.
Then again, I was asking about 7M-GTE cams, which have 2 times the lobes, though really, since the lobes are in pairs and identical, there shouldn't need to be any additional setup to it.

@ Grant: Colt Cams is in Langley BC.
@ Dan: What I was told was about $170 per cam. He actually gave me an exact quote for the profile I wanted (although I don't think the cost differs between them) but it was last year and I can't remember what it was now.

In that case, Awesome. That means that the 5M cams are cheaper. I looked it up, and I think that the 7M cams were $500 for the pair, with a possibility of a $50 discount for club membership. I had that as an each price in my head for some reason, but when I looked again, it isn't.
Awesome =) My buddy was happy to hear about these guys... now he's pondering doing an NA build or swapping in a 7M-GTE...
Thanks guys!
