Started this in 2006, took a break to go to Australia for a while, and have been slowly assembling it.
How it started:

Nice job!! Loving the BEAUTIFUL paint job. Would love to see this one when it's done.
Did you get it wet sanded after paint? It makes a WORLD of difference.

Looks awesome, looking forward to seeing more. You are definitely taking your time, but doing it right. Love the wheels/tires.

I remember seeing this on SM. Good job on it so far.

Yeah, I figured I'd bring it to the local board. Thanks for the comments everyone.
My job for tomorrow is to install the fuel tank and attempt to re-assemble the doors...I couldn't beleive how much crap came out of there, and I'm not looking forward to putting it back in. Of course, a couple layers of sound deadening will go on first.

yea there is a lot of crap in the interior. i have totally fergot how to put mine back together lol
looks very nice though
Wow... neat stuff. Restoration is a very appropriate word for this! That will last at least another 20 years, given summer-only driving in our climate.

Wow I wish I could take the time to do that... lol nice work

here's the 3rd start-up once I solved my isc issue...enjoy.

Man that is sweet. Love the guages in the dash.
FFIM, but everything internally is stock, correct? Do you have plans???
Again, I didn't used to like white cars, but there are some really nice examples around here.
Keep us updated.

Engine was built by VICS in calgary a few years back. Currently has about 50k km. HKS gasket/ARP bolts, Toyota pistons, shot-peened rods, reworked crank, balanced/blueprinted, ported and polished head. Turbo is a hybrid ct-26 (turbonetics hot-side) 60 trim.
Oiling system consists of a modified oil pan (widened sump) and remote bypass filtration/cooling circuit. Capacity is about 9 quarts. Just put in new piston oil squirters as well.
I figure I should be able to get over 500 rwhp out of the engine without any issue once I pick up a new turbo and EMS. For now, I'll see what i can do on the lex/550/s-afc system.

Okay, great. At least the performance will be able to live up the the looks.
Not familiar with VICS though, but I'm relatively ignorant.

i think the shop changed names a few years ago....it was owned by Vladimir Kaitman (built the engine for Reg's MK4).

Vladimir's a good guy - still does work out of his garage. But not nearly as much as he used to.

Pulled the trigger on an AEM ems. I now have the winter to figure this thing out, and build myself a nice custom wiring harness; however, I'm a bit hesitant to start pulling apart my engine wiring harness...its not even 6 months old!
And FC, thanks for the write-up on the multiplex ignition removal...Picked up the DH61 ignitor on the cheap ($25) and I'll be converting over in spring.

Man, it takes some serious balls to pull a car completely apart like that. My hat is off to you sir.

You should be able to use the majority of the stock harness if you got the plug and play unit.

wow....looks awesome, I really like the guages in the stock cluster as well. Dunno i really like something about the stock speedo and tack too!

Oh, I know that, but I don't like wires hanging around that don't do a thing...nor do I like cutting them off. Wiring to be removed includes:
AFM
Oil pressure sensor wire
O2 heater
cold start injector
fuel pump resistor trigger
I'll be integrating the wiring for my additional sensors into the stock harness...because I'm weird like that. Luckily, I've found a site that sells automotive TXL wire in >20 different colour combinations to make tracking the wiring much easier.
All I need to figure out now is which style of crimp terminals the ignitor plug uses and I'll be set. If its the same as the majority of the 7m harness, I'm in luck since I've got a pile of terminals sitting around.

lol wow - i just spliced in some wire and ran it separately to the sensors and stuff i added like MAP, IAT and boost control, and hid the old plugs etc in the harness on the engine. If you are talking about the 10P plug on the DH61, it is the 'small' size of terminal, i just got a pigtail with it from the wreckers and used that plus the plugs i cut off the old 7m igniter.
One more piece of advice - make sure you ground whatever wideband system you are using to the ground wires from the engine harness going into the ECU, and ground the ECU case to those wires as well. This will solve ALOT of misfire/hesitation/not correct 02 readings. trust me.

Thanks for the tips. By "small" size of terminal, do you mean the same size as those that would fit in the CPS, ignitor, and various other engine plugs? These are the terminals I have...(Sumitomo HM/MT series)
Funkycheeze

yeah, as opposed to the 'large' style like on the early model ECU plugs.

ah, good stuff, thanks.
just to let you know, i might have some more questions for you when beginning to tune my car....our setups are quite similar aside from injectors.
Funkycheeze
11-27-2009, 12:23 PM
Sure - i can fire you some base maps etc. It should be easy to rescale the fuel map for different size injectors.
adampecush
11-27-2009, 12:47 PM
that would be awesome. (if anything, just to have a look at them over the winter)...
Apparently there is already a map on the ecu for a setup similar to my car, but retrieving it requires plugging the unit into the car....which is in storage...45km away.

Thanks again.
