View Full Version : My return for the weekend/Endless car woes

Hey guys!

I'm glad to be back from up north after a couple week period!

My trip home was something though. I'll get back to that, but first a story about a car chase:

So, I was down in Edmonton for a quick meeting last week, and on my way back up north I was driving through St. Albert and I saw a red MKIII Supra leaving the city in my direction. So I matched speeds behind him for a while, doing about 5, and after cruising like for a while he moved up to 8, so I followed him. Now, he realized I was following him.We get past morinville and he takes off up to about 10. I kept the distance between us even, and he slowed down again. We cruised for a while at 4 again, and I stayed on his tail. Then he tried to shake me again. First he took a right and pulled into a side road then back around onto the highway. I thought he was slowing down so we could talk, so I lost a bit of ground on him, but I caught up to him.You see, he pulled onto the highway and went up to what must have been his redline in 5th, because I hit a new top speed record for my car, and managed to gain on him. I think we were probably doing about 10.3, but my speedo doesn't go that far. I was sick of chasing him by now (It had already been an hour), so while I was driving I wrote 'supraclub' on a piece of paper in big letters, and then pulled up beside him and slapped the paper against my window. I pulled over and he followed suit.

We chatted and I told him about our club and our website and a bunch of other stuff. He just finished restoring his supra to factory condition. He bought the car for 2k (I think) and it was a total wreck, and then spent 20k and about 900 hours working with some former toyota mechanics to restore the car 100%.Red MKIII NA 5spd, cat back and .020 overbore. This car is the nicest supra I have ever seen. It literally looks like it was driven off the showroom floor. All parts are toyota. He showed me a scrapbook from the restoration, and had awesome pics. He lives up in athabasca, but I told him to check out are site anyhow. Recruiting members has never been so much fun! When I pulled back onto the road, all I could smell was burnt clutch. I had to let my car sit for a while before I could drive again. A new clutch might be in my future. I'm thinking Spec Stage 1.

Now for my car woes.

Before I came back down to the city for this weekend, I was topping up my coolant, and I left my car for a while to grab something. When I came back, a couple of girls I know were standing by my open hood and they were talking about how they did something to my car that would take effect after 30 minutes of driving. I thought they were joking. So did they.

So, almost exactly 30mins later, I'm on the highway and my battery and brake lights come on, and my cruise shuts off. I knew instantly that the alternator must be going, but I kept going. I made it into edmonton and was 5 blocks away from where I needed to stop (not my house) when my car just died. I was there for a while waiting for my dad when Marcednator happened to pull up. He helped me push my car onto a side road and we chilled in his car and chatted for a while as rain started to pour down and my dad showed up. We jumped the car, and managed to get it to an outdoor outlet on the side of a building, where we hooked up a trickle charger. I first gave Dave a call and then Andriy for a new alternator. Andriy gave me a good deal ($50 as compared to $260 at Canadian Tire) and helped me put it in. I want to give mad props to Marc and Andriy, and whoever's electricity we stole for the trickle charger. Marc didn't need to pull over, especially when he didn't know it was me, and Andriy didn't have to take all the time to help me install the new alternator and trouble shoot it (after installing it my idle dropped to 500rpm. I'm happy to report it has now settled on 800rpm or so, which is better then the 1100rpm it was at. I have my theories for why this happened, but I am typing too much, so I will keep them to myself.

As for my brake issue, those of you who went to DTP willl remember I thought I had a rock stuck in my brakes. I finally had the tools and spare time to check this out, and after the problem has progressively worsened, I have discovered that it was my pads wearing down to the metal backing strips. I will be putting on proterfield R4S pads for sure, and I am unsure what else I will put on at this time.

That's pretty much all that's new. Sorry I missed the last meet, and Earl, I'll see what I can do about getting you that money ASAP.

Cheers,

Tim

one question thats been bugging me for a day or two.

can we please not have posts like this?
im all for telling the tale of chasing down another supra, but please dont post a numerical speed value.
instead say "we were going kinda fast" or something.
cops do read forums, and if they start linking the club to highly illegal activities, we can get ourselves into trouble.

just a thought, but glad to hear you like the car :)

"Speeds referred to in the previous dialogue were simulated using digital technology and no cars ever attained a speed above posted limits”.

hahah, similar to the getaway in stockholm disclaimers "none of these cars actually exist, they are all computer generated, as is all the film...blahblahblah"

trouble? well, besides having cops look out for your car and taking every opportunity to hassle you...not too much, but wouldnt that be enough?

I agree with dogstar and my apolgies for printing such information. Though a police officer cannot fine an individual after the fact in a case such as this, it could certainly draw a curious eye towards us. I just got such a rush going 10.3 in my car that I forgot to censor myself. I won't let it happen again.

Cheers,

Tim

Edit: I wish I wasn't so darn incompetent with html...

Hi Tim,

No worries. We're just looking out for other club members. :D I know what it is like to come down from a rush when you have done 10.3 or 14.8. LOL. I just threw random numbers in your post for fun and smiles! Take it easy Tim!
