Subaru i'm trying to sell, replaced with a truck so i won't be doing mods to it for a while, but i'm sure i'll do some stupid shit to it sooner or later.
not a car, but fun none the less.

a friend took some pics of the turbo setup and how the sled looked when i got it back. naturally its already obselete as i've added an exhaust turnout and my box on the back of the machine. I'm interested to see how the pics of the turbo inside the track tunnel turned out.

The software he was running in the dyno video looks an awful lot like MagaTune. Never heard of a squirted sled before. :)

well, basically what i have to say to that is....fuck that, lol.
For now its the module that came with the MCX kit, it takes care of everything, no fiddling with it, nice and simple, reliable, i just have to ride the machine, just how i want it right now, lol.
i can buy plug in power commander units, more cost, but i'd rather spend more time fine tuning the maps than building a new wiring harness and programing the sensors to work on the MS software. Only issue with the power commander ignition module is no boost retard function, so if i decide to go for a bigger turbo thats something i will look into.
And the dealer said they would be interested in selling my "stage 2 upgrade" kit to other customers if i do it too, so maybe get my cost down on my own parts there.

new pics. first off i'd like to say thanks to my grandpa, without him i wouldn't be snowmobiling at all. heres him at 80 years old this year, still riding in the mountains on his new mountain machine. Me in the background

Me on the second day getting ready to get on the move again.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/SupraDevil/snowmobiling/P3161255.jpg
no trip is complete without a small hiccup, small coolant leak somewhere that meant stopping once on the first day and once on the third day to top up the resevoir. Which is quite convienently located directly under the intercooler now. Shovel handle and some gentle pulling on the resevoir got the handle lined up as a tube to top it up.

runs good though, lots of power. this was easy, tons of power, went right to the top on the next run at it, still not trying too hard.

haha, that's awesome Glenn... nothing like a few hundred horsepower shooting a 30ft rooster tail off a cornice.
But, is that compressor stall i hear? No BOV?

its got a bov but ya it sounds like the turbo chattering not the bov working. low boost and a BB turbo thought so i'm not worried about breaking anything.

Sweet pics!
This reminds me of the time I hit a tree out in Golden a few weeks back. I sure could have used a metal bar in the front like your sled! Lucky for me, it was just a few pieces of plastic that got squished.
Supra_devil

ya, that bar bends easy too, its for lifting the sled not hitting stuff, lol.

started doing some pre-season work to the sled
started with nice ceramic coated exhaust and turbo housing

then the other night i went out to the garage to clean and work on the mk3 strip down a bit and got started on my sled, next thing it looked like this
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/SupraDevil/snowmobiling/f10b750e.jpg
front subframe needed a small tweak to get it straight so i did that before taking it apart, subframe is getting some bracing welded in. sway bar is permanently removed, which should make it a fair easier to throw around in the powder and i modified the upper ball joints to get more camber to give better higher speed stability.
front end bushings on order
new chromoly steering post on order
post relocation kit on order
stiffer rear springs on order
boost controller on order
hand guards on order
and other stuff will come as well
and i bought a new longer track with bigger paddles and a more aggresive pattern, so i should have lots of traction now.

Removed the sway bar? Won't that make it scaryx3 on packed trails for tippy-ness?
Supra_devil

sway bars are a band air for poor suspension setup, and because its hard to setup suspension for bumpy conditions.
the worst part on my sled in the bumps was always the back end bouncing because i had to have the preload set stiff otherwise i would always bottom out, with the stiffer springs i should be able to leave the preload looser and it should handle the bumps better without bouncing.
the front end should be more stable at higher speeds because of the balljoints being modified.
in the turns it will tend to roll out a bit more in the front but that just means i need to lean in more, if i get fox floats then the machine doesn't need the sway bar anymore (everyone says once you get floats the bar is useless and the machine feels better without it) since you can simple put more/less air pressure for the trail conditions. but really, the front end of this machine isn't great on bumpy packed trail handling to start with, so its no real loss there. on smooth hard pack it shouldn't be an issue.
but in the powder where i do most of my riding, and definetly 90%+ of my hard riding, the sway bar being gone makes it much easier to lay over and to sidehill. and i get to shave a few lbs off with it gone as well.

Good points Glenn, which is why I asked ;)
Packed trails only exist as a means to get to the good stuff anyway :D

thats the way i look at it too.
well, new parts arrived, i got the chromoly steering post and post relocation kit, rear springs, boost controller, and hand guards here now.
the front subframe is welded up with a nice brace now

made a boo boo, the front of the brace blocks where the stock skid plate goes up and clips on, so i will have to mod it to work, or cut it and try just clipping it at the bottom, gonna look at that when i get the subframe back.

i did the arms as well, don't have pics of them at the moment
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b340/SupraDevil/snowmobiling/173f6a38.jpg
been lazy on my own sled, and have been working on my cousins MXZ a lot, so not a whole lot done on mine.
got the new track in there, changed the torsion springs on the skid, got the old sliders off. subframe back on and some plastic on. Also started the install of the Wildchild steering post relocation.
still waiting on my new balljoints from alberta cycle before i put the control arms on.
my skinz float plate is here, projectors are here, oilite bushings are in the arms already, ready to go in.
all the sled needs is the ball joints to get here and to have me get motivated and put one day into it and it will be good to go.
First ride scheduled for Nov.21 :D

been a while since i updated, a while ago i got the track, rail extensions, new sliders and stiffer torsion springs on.
then, more recently i put the front end back on, along with the new steering post. discovered my post relocation won't work with the aftermarket riser i have. today i got the oil change done, gear oil put in, handguards put on, seat and rear plastic put back on. And the boost controller is installed as well :D i'm probably forgetting about something else i did, but suffice to say, its coming together and won't take much more to finish.

What size is your old track and what are you doing with it?
Supra_devil
12-12-2008, 08:53 AM
its a 153x15x2 and its sitting in a box doing nothing at all. its too good of shape (and has big paddles) to cut it up to use on ramps but i have nothing to use it for.

hmm... it might be too much track, but I'll see anyway. My dad's old indy 500 needs a new track, but I think we'd have to get more power and cut the tunnel to fit that long of a track. IIRC there's enough clearance for a 2" at the drive wheels.

took it for a quick rip down the street to check things out, get it warmed up, check for leaks, etc. only thing i noticed was a small amount of coolant spit out the overflow, not much though. between the ceramic coated exhaust, lower altitude than i'm used to, and the cool (-25C) air, the response and power was stupid! i just about fell off the first time i hit the throttle, and i wasn't wide open.
