Windshield Cowl!!!!

I repainted the windshield wiper arms (they turned out beautiful) and wouldn't mind doing the cowl to(black panel under the wipers). I can't seem to get it off and I don't want to wreck it. I need to know;how to take it off and if the paint was flat black or a semi-gloss black, i'm thinking semi-gloss.

There should be 6 (IIRC) philips screws that hold it down. 4 across the middle and one on either side that also holds the window trim on. The wiper arms may have to come off as well. Most of the cowls I have seen were, I guess, a semi-gloss. Not sure if this was just due to fading though. But Toyota's decisions don't have to affect yours. :)

The wiper arms do need to come off. It's just a half dozen phillips screws that hold it down, but the rubber seal may be stuck to the glass.

i had all the screws off and the wipers and it seems to be stuck under the window trim by the mirrors. i'll see what i can do tonight and let you know then. thanks for getting rid of post #2

Yeah, if I recall correctly, there's a screw that you have to open the door to get at, on each side. On the Mk2's anyway. It's also kind of a pain to get the cowl actually out when you've got all the screws off.

Yup, the end screws are in behind the door.


You'll probably find the cowl has been siliconed in place around the top edge making it difficult to get off.

yup, there were screws by the doors and there was no silicone. it was a little tricky to get off but now i know how;)
