srt4's???
unless they are modified they wont beat a supra

SRT4: A turbocharged AWD Neon. Actually, they're pretty damed fast stock, and can be even faster when modded. I think a stock SRT4 could take a stock Mk3T, depending on the drivers. And modded ones... Well, then it's just a matter of degree, right?
But it's still a Neon. ;)
Well, Let's see where/when and if I can... (Am I allowed to tell 'em that my car's an '89NA? ;))

srt4, a turbocharged FWD, NOT AWD, with better suspension, bigger motor, LSD (except in the first year where it was an option and not all got it). and with a great driver stock can hit 13.9's, most run mid to low 14's. which is faster than a slightly modified mk3. there are a few guys in the 11's in edmonton iirc.
really, i think these guys are after the mk4's that are going to start coming in soon. But i'm sure there are a few here with JZ mk3's, 7M mk2's, etc. that could give them a run for their money depending on whats done.

The motor that's going in my car was running high 12s on slicks, and my car is only lighter...

If that was the case would they not have been more specific in the title and request? Ie) Calling out MKIV Supras vs SRT4’s?
Yes…the neons are fast cars. Mind you anyone can have a fast car when it weights next to nothing. :D Perhaps they might not be too picky who they choose to race on the track.

Hmmm... Okay, I was told (At a Dodge dealership) that they were AWD. Makes more sense to me that they're FWD though. I didn't look underneath.
And yeah, I expect that even in stock trim they'll be taking lightly modded Mk3s down, and modded... Well, that all depends.

I'm very sure SRT-4's are FF, and only FF. The best thing they come with from the factory is a boost leak... it's a dodge neon with a fancy name.
Anything is fast if you spend enough money on it. I don't know if I'll be ready to race, but I may well show up

There aren't many built for roadcourse locally, but Ryan, you might just be surprised.

I hate SRT4s, don't even think I'm taking on devil's advocate positioning, but I have seen what some of them can do, and I'd hate for us to come out of this looking stupid.
Lets not fool our collective selves, most of the cars here are stock or nearly stock with a few shocking exceptions like your's Ryan.
Stock mk2s are lucky to run low 16s, stock mk3s are in the 15s, stock mk4 are in the high 13s...
STOCK SRT4s are gonna school a stock supra like the proverbial red headed stepchild unless it's a well driven, well maintained mk4.
Hell, my 4 door boat will smack the crap outa most of the stock mk2/3 on here. :P
The SRT4s that come out to this WILL NOT be stock... they will bring the big guns, because they are looking to gain some respect by stomping "that orange car from fast and the furious".
The SRT4 club, assuming they have any brains will bring mopar stage2 and stage3 cars, and them is to be feared on the street.
Go into this with the intentions of nothing more than having fun on the track or your gonna be upset by the end of the evening.

I agree they're faster then you think, but I think a 500+whp MKIII will be able to keep up.

Rob's got a chance with his 1.5JZ. Keegan's 7M-GTE will have a chance. Supraboyz (If he goes) would stand a chance.
The rest of us are going to be there as whipping boys.
I wouldn't go in expecting to win, and if that bothers people, then maybe I'd just stay back. My car is BPU at best, and likely to be that way on the track. I don't expect better than 15s, and frankly, given my inexperience with dragging a 5 speed, I'd be surprised if I get there.
Funkycheeze
01-29-2008, 05:36 PM
at like 25-30 PSI on the standalone I will have a chance, but my car is not built for drag racing.
Like I said - roadcourse time.

Heh. I would figure you to definitely "have a chance" -- Can't believe I forgot to name you. Sorry, man!
Supra_Soul
01-29-2008, 08:58 PM
Even if your car isn't built for drag you should still be able to put down some good ET's.
The way I look at it is that my car is 18 years old. Using 18 year old technology. And, although it has 2 more cylinders, it only has 100cc more displacement. Not to mention it's wieght...
Dan_Gyoba
01-29-2008, 09:07 PM
Okay, so the common expectation is that we're going to get taken to the cleaners on the drag strip.
Most of us expect that we'd do much better on a road course. Would we really? After all, the Supra was a great handling car when it was new, but as stated most of us are lightly modded or so close to stock it might as well be stock, particularly in the suspension department. We're still fighting that 3800lb (For the Mk3) mass in the corners. The Mk2's suspension isn't that special stock either. Funky's Mk2 is a different story, and I'm sure he COULD out-do most cars on the track.
Mine, on the other hand, really might as well be stock. I don't even have upgraded sway bars yet. :(
Depressing thought. :(
Supra_Newfie
01-29-2008, 09:11 PM
I'd be up for watching. I'm with Ryan in the roadcourse. I don't have many power upgrades at the moment but there's nothing in my suspension that hasn't been touched...if there is...let me know and I'll quickly change it! :)
Cheers,
Grant

my car will be around 2900lbs im guessing. it is FULLY stripped.
i too have purchased every single suspension piece i could find!
id like to add myself to the list of people that might be able to take someone down lol.
if they beat us at the strip we should challenge them to a lapping day at stratotech or something.

well seeings how im still apart of the "alberta supra club"
i dont see why i cant bring my mk2 turbo jetta out to play
i have man-handled srt4's with basic mods (exhaust ,bov ,cai)
and its more of a sleeper then any supra could ever be :good:

If it's ready, the 7MGTE Celi might catch 'em off guard. With traction, I hope to see high 12's with it, 13's for sure.

I did some reading on the SRT-4. All this is pertaining to the top of the line turbo model.
To me, there seems to be two types: Rice and Hardcore, with very little in between. Rice has money spent on the body kit, Hardcore has money spent on the engine. But even stock, the $32000 price tag does set a presidence with 260hp from the factory, and something around 2900lbs. Let's remember that the mkIII came with 225hp at about 3400lbs, from the factory 20 years ago. And 10 years ago dodge neons had 25hp from the factory. It's not really comparing apples and oranges anymore.
There have been records set in Alberta for FWD 1/4 mile times by SRT-4's. Their stage kits from the factory make it a pretty dangerous car in a straight line, and I'd presume no joke on a road course.
The stage 3 factory kit disables the A/C and a bunch of other options on the car, as to enforce it's off-road-ness.
I've no doubt (and the people who own them may well agree) that although they have the cheapest interior made by the lowest bidder and assembled by a blind monkey, Dodge did something very right with the power train, cuz it hauls serious ass for a FWD.
Think of it this way... if an SRT-4 gets smoked by a mkIII, they just got roasted by a 20 year old japanese built bathtub, dispite whether or not it says "Supra" on the side. It's old, it's heavy, it's alot of other things too, and fast is sometimes in there... but an SRT-4 is supposed to be fast, that's the only reason they sell a single one:that's why they come with stage kits from the factory. If anyone's the underdog here, it's the old mkIII's and older mkII's.
If all else fails, we could challenge them to a drift competition

I doubt I'm going to do nearly as well as we initially suspected I might -- the whole turning down the boost and not wanting to blow shit up thing kind of turned that one down a notch.
However, I will still likely surprise the fuck out of them. That's good enough for me.
