I was going to start a poll but decided this will work better. I have a few club direction questions to ask.

I have been to SCC and DTP and have my own thoughts on local car shows. I have not been to power-ramma for several years so I cannot say if it has improved at all.

Question One:
We are planning a Supra show for the end of August at Sun Toyota.

Why? What can we accomplish through this? How will we get people to check it out? Why would they want to?

Question Two:
SCC is coming, are we going to be ready to show for that? Do we want to? What is the SCC event mean to you?

Question Three:
What have you seen at car show that made "it work" for you. What is the thing you saw that said, "this is a good show" to you?

Think about this for a while.... parking a lot of cars together and calling it a show is not it. Loud stage show is not it. Half naked girls is not it.

But when you ask anybody what do you want to see in a show they will say cool cars, party tunes, and hot chicks!

We have the cars with the power and reputation to create an impression at any show. We have the skills to take this "perceived" reputation and keep it true to form. With the addition of 2 more turbo MK2’s and a few MK3’s ready to attack the 400+ whp limit I think we can stand out from the rest.

I know the secret to show success! But before we run headlong into this nightmare of 18-year-old egos and attitudes we have to decide that this is what we want.

Question Four:
Is this what we want? Are you ready to dedicate your time & efforts to this? There will be no reward beyond knowing we do good work. I know not all members are willing to go this far but for those who do will be in it for their own reasons.

More to come, please post up valid feedback on this issue.

you know what i want earl...

i want to take my 25 year old "jap crap" to powerrama and show it in between a camaro and a mustang and have people stop to look at it.
thats what i want.
i dont want a discoqueen show car, i dont want a dyno flogger... i want something nice enough to show, but driven hard enough to catch the eye of the knowledgable.

if were going to make a show team, my car wont be ready for a year, or more, but i am fully willing to man booths and shoot the shit with show goers... do late night setups and sunday night tear downs.

been there and done that with a club that will remain unnamed, and had a lot of fun, met a lot of people.

i'm in for it but if i'm working at the time i'm not turning down any overtime that offered so that kinda puts me in a situation, if i say i'll be there now and then later say well too bad i'm working, i'm adding to others work load and look like an ass.

however if i'm there then i am fully willing and able to do grunt work and although i don't like people i can guard dog very well. "get the F**k off the hood you skanky slut model wannabe." i think that some people at the last show needed people like me.

Hi Earl,

Good post, very informative.

Here are my answers.

"We are planning a Supra show for the end of August at Sun Toyota.

Why? What can we accomplish through this? How will we get people to check it out? Why would they want to?"

I think the main point of the first show is just to show our cars. Yes, there will be no prizes things of that sort. We have alot of cars in the club and we have people that have done interesting things with their cars too. I know I for one am interested in putting my car in the show even though there is no prize. What we will accomplish is that we are a club and more and more people will realize that a new Supra Club exists. As for people to check it out, Whyte Ave is a perfect location. It is very busy and we will have alot of traffic of pedestrians and drivers that would be interested in stopping by to check it out, gawk or poke fun of the cars.

"Question Two
SCC is coming, are we going to be ready to show for that? Do we want to? What is the SCC event mean to you?" Sorry SCC? I am having a brain freeze?

"Question Three
What have you seen at car show that made "it work" for you.

Getting together with the club and chatting with the members and people walking buy is what does it for me. Also having a nice turn out too.

"Question Four
Is this what we want? Are you ready to dedicate your time & efforts to this? There will be no reward beyond knowing we do good work. I know not all members are willing to go this far but for those who do will be in it for their own reasons"

As for myself I am ready to dedicate my time and efforts to this. I want to do this for the club. It is always nice when someone comes up and says "Cool car man" Our personal efforts will be rewarded by people coming buy and complimenting the cars and the club. At least for me it will be. Everyone is different and that is good.

i would like to take my car to show things like my cold air intake and such to show people that they can do things simply that look decent and are functional with real gains.

( psst, hey Mike, SCC = V8less Sport Compact Challenge) http://www.sportcompactchallenge.ca/

september 17th for SCC.

personally, i think we could have a pretty good showing, but again, some of our cars may need work before theyre show n shine ready.
i know mine sure does, unless i can park the passenger side against a wall ;)

as for the drag aspect, surely a couple guys can put on a show.

soundoff... maybe.
my car is loud, but again, its incomplete.
i might get decent points for sound quality and volume, but i would get dinged hard for an unfinished and very messy install.

any other club members who might be willing to go for a soundoff.

i'd throw my car in for sound if they have a stock class, mines gonna be stock locations and setup, only change is going from whatever the rears are to 5 1/4's and upgrading the rest, including a new deck.

i'd go for the 1/4 mile too, turbo should be in and tuned pretty decent by then. I hope....

well I wouldn't really enter show, my car is in decent shape, but not exactly show quality. I'd definitely be up for drag assuming everything goes smoothly with my 6m-gte swap.

Ok everyone, let me rephrase this. I think the statement "Car show" is being interperted as that ones car needs to be immaculate in order for it to be brought. I was thinking of the "Car Show" to have a get together and display our cars for the public to see. Granted the car should be washed, but to have it immaculate would eliminate a few members that I feel would like to display their cars.

Just my $0.02

OK this is my thread right? So here are morew of my thoughts.

Sun Toyota show. Great for supporting the cars and a starting point for us and the cars. As we grow and continue to improve our cars so will the reputation of the club. One day someone will say "I remeber dudes car when it was a POS and now it is a Supra wet dream!"

I ask about the dedication because I will help people install & prep cars for there goals. It is easier to work as a team to get things done.

I think if we can get several cars out for any show we are doing well, remember the Lude club has 80 members but only "how many" cars for the show?

The cars will always be WIPs (works in progress) so we need to show this. Like a promo add for your car.
Make a little sign that says Celica turbo custom or 6-gte, Super Rare! let people know what is done & going to be done to the car.
This is hype that will get the club noticed.

People will leave thinking 1) I saw a realy clean toyota supra today or 2) I saw a bad ass 85 supra with custom mods supr clean engine with powder coating, and buy the next show It will have a frigg'n turbo in it. That bitch will scream!

Get it? Do you want it?

I know that cars don't have to be perfect for these shows, but I want mine to be as close as possible. I'm gonna bring it to Sun Toyota on the 28th, but not to SCC. I'm putting her in the garage to do some serious mod work. I want it to be a monster if I bring it to SCC...to get some respect for mk3's, and to put some honda's in thier places

OK thread revival!

So I had a couple of chances to show and go to car shows here in the city & Red Deer and I have come up with what I would like to see for us.

Market Branding is what they call it. For us it will involve the following items.

One:
At least 4 cars need to show up to make it look like we have some kind of crew. Any less and we just look like guys who have the same type of cars.
Two:
Club shirts. Creations had bright neon green T's for the Red Deer show. I would not do this to you, but having everybody displayed in "club colors" will help with recognition.
Three:
Uniform info sheets on the cars. Most guys do not put any info up about their cars, maybe because they think everybody should know about their car. That might work for the Cuda & Mustang boys but for us we need to promote the cars & the mods. We need to come up with one template that will look good and allow all of us to include car info for display at the shows.
Four:
Although it was cheesy and over done EZ had the right idea with the window stickers for the cars. Maybe if we could come up with a temporary full window vinyl sticker, just for shows and drags that has our logo large enough for the people in the stands to see. OK this is a bit over kill I think but it may work cause if we start running good numbers people will want to know who we are.
Five:
Know what shows we are going to be at & promote them ahead of time to friends & family. If we can draw people to shows we will be asked to join them for free or for sponsor cash/gifts/toys.

Other ideas out there?

well i know my family showed up to the sun toyota show, also, maybe instead of vinyl stickers using something like a fridge magnet kind of deal would work too, and won't damage the car, not that vinyl would, but its easily applied and removed.
a spec sheet would work good, but most people want to see finished mods, not plans, and unfortunetly thats what most of us had this year. I could easily see myself going to DTP or something to represent, my car won't be perfect, but i have a lot put into mods and making it a clean install.
Getting a mk4 to show up always attracts the crowds too,
Build, um bring it, and they will come.
I also have lots of extra parts that could be used to attract attention, a full set of stockers with michelin pilots, some very lightweight 3 piece wheels from england.
Getting Barry to bring some laser cut parts from Precision Laser would attract attention, give us some rep points for Need for Speed: Underground, and give his shop some attention, which only makes his boss like our club more:)
briging works in progress always looks good, I really wish i could have brought some stuff to set my turbo up on, like a couple stands or something at the Sun show, would have been cool, and definetly grabbed some eyes.

Woo, i'm spent for now, time for a nap.

Yeah I was thinking of the thick glass decals that stores use on the pop coolers. They stay stuck but you can just peal them off and stick em to any smooth surface. I don't think I would like to drive around with a 2 foot supra logo on my back glass. LOL

I think a show stand for your turbo & IC piping would have been great. And the spec sheet is exactly what I was thinking. State the facts about the car and maybe some trivia...like most people do not know the 86 Supra was Toyotas best selling single model year ever. List OEM specs & modded specs etc.

I guess what ever you want but the sheet/display info should look the same for all cars with color and style, while the info can be completely different.

i like the sticking to the same colors and display standards or whatever you want to call it, enforces the team spirit and unity we want.

next year i should be working more and will have more welding practice and fabbing practice, so i could easily build some stuff. bringing a couple supra seats with frames like i have at home wouls certainly be cool, and no one wants to go to a car show and stand all day.

Hey guys! Geat discussion we're having here!

I think it would be good for us to maybe put up a laptop with a constantly playing display of pictures, of us working on cars, dynoing cars, etc. We should take a lot of pictures I guess, also, it would be cool to throw up some videos on a display, of track racing and dynoing etc. Just try and find some cool stuff to throw on a display I guess. It worked for ZR auto, but they also had Lamborghinis I guess...

As for what you were talking about Earl, why don't we have some boards made, like the ones people use to keep the sun out of their cars while they're parked, you could make them really colourful to attract attention, and they're easily transferable and reusable. A combination of these with some peelable vinyls would do a great job at both shows and track.

My car will not be a show car for at least three or four years, but I'll certainly represent on the track (until my car and thus my bank account give out).

And yes, ppl DO want to see MKIVs at car shows. I believe it's Jim who owns the red one? His car would especially attract a lot of attention as it is very tastefully modified. I can't speak for the white one as I've never seen it though. I'dlove to have a stripped-down-to-the-framem supra for a dsiplay, but I know the cost would be prohibitive to create one.

That's my opinion on the situation for now.

Good idea bringing this up Earl!

Cheers,

Tim

Only this time people are posting ideas that might work, not reasons why they can't do it.

I never thought of that but may not be to good for drag racing.

the white one has rims, 3" dp and exhaust, HKS intake, boost controller, and front strut tower bar. its a 95 TT.

He takes very good care of it, the body/paint is in great shape, and its an original Edmonton car from day 1.

There are 2 white ones in Edmonton that I have met....Both are nice...real nice.

Well if we can get our MKIVs to come out, that would definitely get some attention, they are very rearely seen around here, more so than even MKIIIs ("Hey, that's a nice old ferrari", or alternately "Hey! Nice probe!"). And of course the sun visors would not be used on te track, that's what the peelable vinyls would be for, and besides, you can take them off while racing.

We need to further develop our brand Earl, and I would be happy to apply my skills in this area.

In other news, I keep looking at the Greddy e-manage ultimate and saying "Why not?" Stay tuned...

Cheers,

Tim

once my paint is done, hopefully this winter, the car will be seeing carshow duty.
the way i figure it, its got wheels, decent engine even if i dont swap/turbo it, stereo, and paint, its a daily driven show car at that point.

once we get a logo of sorts, can someone toss me an autocad file?
ill cut it out of mirror polished stainless or something :D

I would be interested in hearing how your paint turns out Barry, and how muuch it costs you in the end.

Once you get it done, please let us know! And what colour are you having it painted?

Barry,
What kind of logo are you looking for? We have one right?
Hard to do in metal I guess.

CanuckDave

not hard to do with a cnc laser cutter ;)

I'm going to redo the logo with a better font (I want to try to find something kinda close to the 'toyota' lettering)
when I do that, I'll see what I can do for output, with illustrator I have no problem making a vector version so its scalable (already done it for the current version of the logo) and I'll talk to my dad about getting him to draft up a CAD version so it could be cut, working with CAD is how he makes his living so I don't think he'll have a problem..

Depending on what days the shows are, I would be willing to haul my ass up to E-Town for a few days.

The car has the turbo timer, boost guage (needs to be fixed) and air/fuel ration guage... And once I drop my subs in I'm sure the 150+ dB will bring some attention. Not to mention it being RHD will bring some looks :)
