I know if we don't do anything, the motor's going to be sitting in my garage forever. So, Saturday, the 29th, the day before the fiberglass party, I have a block of time between noon, and 6pm (when I have to go to work).
6 Hours should be enough time to transplant the new motor into the car. So, keegan, get your MKI over to my house saturday morning, and we'll get this motor done.

I can get my mk1 to your place for the morning, but the problem with this whole ordeal is that I work Saturdays from 8:30 until 5.
Sundays and Thursdays off, remember? Let me know what works.

Or course. What good is a MKI without a turbo?

Keegan, I just dis-assembled the wiring a little to get a better understanding how the fuel management works. It's a lot more unbelievable then you thought.
It doesn't fire the cold start injector, and no, there isn't a pressure switch on the motor.......there's two! It's so genius its amazing. Anyways, the two switches modify the coolant temperature signal going to the ecu. As the switches are activated, they increase the resistance of the signal, making the motor think it's colder, and the ecu dumps in more fuel. So, basically with this, you have
- Normal
- Fuel plus.
- Fuel plus plus!
It's just so genius. It's the world's most amazing hack job.

Ugh.......
Is it bad when your replacement motor has more metal in the oil pan then the one you're taking out?
Like seriously! Now this thing's going to be in my garage forever.

Ok, so, pulled both motors apart today. The motor in Keegan's car appears to have a BHG on cylinder 6, a blown ringland on cylinder 4, and I don't know what the hell is up with cylinder 5.
We found 3 good pistons from the junkyard motor, and put them into the old motor. Hopefully it will run well. Hell, even if it runs poorly, It just needs to run, and get the hell out of my garage.
Haha, bearings, who needs bearings? The reason the junkyard car was in the junkyard? Rodknock. There was NO bearing on the number 4 conrod. NONE. He must have drove it for a LOOOOONG time with a knock. The piston was actually flatter on top for running itself into the head all the time.
And I didn't get time to go look at that MKII for sale today :(

It runs!
It runs!!!
It runs!!!!!!
Has a decent sized oil leak coming from somewhere around the power steering pump. I think it's leaking out between the head and timing cover due to the "modified" gasket. I stuck some FIPG in there. if it doesn't stop the leak, I'll have to take off the PS pump to fix it.
But it runs, and it runs well! It's blowing a bunch of smoke, but I think it's just residual oil in the cylinders, and the new (ha!) rings trying to seat.
But it runs!
Now get the fucking car out of my garage!

GYAHAHAHAHAH! YES! YES! BOOST, MY PRETTY!
That said, this car is now for sale. If anyone wants a Mk1 that could desperately use an engine rebuild, $1000 takes it, turbo and all.
Dear god this car scares me.
