View Full Version : Exhaust System questions?

What system would you go with if you had the cash? I ask this as my muffler & resonator are really loud and will soon fail. My car in good shape will make way too much noise at 2200 to 3000 rpm, which makes highway trips a bitch.
Tim has posted that he is selling a Stainless Steel Magnaflow muffler with attached 80mm MOMO tips and going with a Tanabe cat-back system.
Why?
What are the price points and considerations with this choice? What other choices are there?
I really like the HKS Dragger that is in Dick’s car but hate the canon type muffler.
Thanks for any feed back.

well if I had the cash, I'd do a custom system. high flow cat, 3" piping, with resonator and a magnaflow or something with dual tips, simply because you're less likely to get pulled over with 2 smaller tips than one large one :)

I'd probably go with a setup something like this if I had a mk3:
piping:

cat:

muffler:

Hi Earl, I am running the Supra Sport High flow Turbo elbow, The RT Down pipe mated to the HKS Dragger. I love the set up and sound. I highly reccomend this but it is an expensive set up. It cost me around $1,600.00 including installation, but worth every penny spent!

paying for the brand name, lol
get some 3" mandrel bent stainless, from 935 or rabidchimp.com
stick a dynomax on the end of it, aluminum colored tips for the stealth look.

i'd get some 3" mandrel and get a shop to weld it up, or do it yourself if your capable. for $100 worth of pipe and then a muffler and labour its much cheaper then any other option.

Hey Earl!
As you mentioned, I am planning on going with the Tanabe. This will make my setup as follows: BIC Ceramic coated Divorced Downpipe (Elbow built-in), BIC Test pipe, and a Tanabe Cat-back.
The reason I'm going after the tanabe is b/c I know they make a high-quality product, they are cheap, and they are among the quietest. The dragger is nice, but it is the most expensive (I believe) and it is louder. Not to mention the monster tip. And I'm sort of boycotting HKS b/c that's where everybody buys their stuff. I'm trying to run an APEX-I/Greddy car.
You can also order stainless mandrel piping from www.burnsstainless.com and build your own relatively cheaply, and I think that a magnaflow muffler with MOMO tips would cap that off nicely ;) .
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Tim
