View Full Version : My new car!

Well, it's definitely not a NEW car, and it's not a Supra either...... but it's close.

I needed to drive something while I rebuild my 1JZ, so I bought Keegan's old RA64 coupe (83 Celica GT). I forgot to take pictures while it was still light out, I'll take them in the next few days.

Pros:
- It's a celica coupe. I mean come on, it's rare.
- The interior is near mint. There's no rips or fading in ANYTHING except a small section of the dash, and I even have a clean dash to swap that out with too.
- It's a 5 speed :)
- It starts, and runs really great. I mean it's a 22R, it'll never die.
- very minor rust. Some surface rust around the wheel wells, and a few spots around windows. A day with a grinder, some rust converter, and some fiberglass/bondo, and it'll be perfect
- It has an A/C, and apperantly it works. I just need to go get a drive belt for the pump, and I'll find out.
- Supra wheels :)

Cons:
- There's grafitti all over the exterior. Keegan managed to get a lot off with a power washer, and I managed to get a bunch more off with some acetone, but it's screaming out for a paint job.
- Some oil and grease stains on the carpet inside, but that should be cleanable.
- The clutch is almost gone, and with my driving, i'm sure I'll kill it in short order.
- The tires are almost toast, but that's no biggie.
- Front main seal leaks EVERYWHERE. It's a 360* spray of oil all over the engine bay.
- Brakes leak fluid too.
- It's missing a few trim pieces, but nothing that can't be had in a junkyard.
- one of the headlights is stuck down.

All it needs is a coolant leak, and I have all the leaking fluids covered :).... or should I say, I'll have the road covered with all the leaking fluids.

All in all, I'm impressed with the vehicle. The problems with it are minor, fixable issues. The vehicle itself is in good shape, especially the interior! I spent a few hours vacuuming, washing, armorall-ing the interior, and it's looking like a new car almost. I also found a TON of change in it. Now all I need to do is get the exterior looking as nice as the interior, and I'll be sooo happy.

shit, I need to finish with the Supra rebuild so I can work on the Celica. Oh no, I've turned into one of those insane multuple Toyota vehicle owners with endless fix-up projects!

lol, use the change to buy more fluids to put on the road :P

I don't think I've ever seen Keegan's celica coupe, sounds like a solid vehicle (well, if it wasn't seive, but that's fixable ;) ). Good luck with the build rob.

Is the headlight stuck, or is the motor burned out? I have a couple of those from my parts car...

As for the paint... You need to do that anyway when you grind the rust out, so the graffiti isn't that big a problem... (Damned vandals...)

well, the motor on the headlight will NOT move with the manual adjustment. I just got keegan to pick me up a new motor at the junkyard this afternoon.

oh, and the cluch is now fine. I guess it needs a fluid change bad, and sitting for however many months didn't help, but after a little driving, it's doing well.

I guess four was just too many to have at once.

It was rare, it was neat, but it wasn't the nicest by any means. It would've been cool, but Rob had more time for it than I did, and let's face it: I want to go fast.

It'd been sitting since the beginning of April, so it needed some cleanup, but it was nice while I had it.

It wasn't painted by vandals. There was an image of what looked like Che Guevara on the hood, along with some other colors. Obviously painted intentionally, but you kinda had to be there to know why.

I finally got around to taking some pics. Here's what it looks like as of yesterday. Today I tried some 220 grit wet sand paper, and it took off the paint with ease. Tuesday it will be all white!

The latest modification: I vinyl dyed a Supra dash black, and installed it into the celica. It's not completely finished, but it's close. The speaker grilles are black now too, it's an old picture.

I decided to dye the interior panels too. Here's a shot of it while it was still wet. Looks pretty good!

I want to do a black on black with this car. I think it'll look good.

We should just put a 5m in there, Rob!

Looking good!

Why stop at a 5M?

Oh, and sorry Keegan, I'm totally megasquirting this thing, so you can't have my MS box.

srry rob, don't mean to threadjack, but how are you going about in rebuilding your 1jz? I'll be starting to do mine up as well here pretty soon . . .

I'm very curious to see how this celica turns out.

Well, the 1JZ is out, but I don't think it's entirely worth it to rebuild, so I'm talking with a few sources right now for a 2JZ.

Oh, and for the Celica, this is the interior as of this afternoon:

http://offsite.lostjournal.com/rob/Celica%20Pics/Black%20Interior.JPG

My camera phone makes the dash look a little bluish, but I assure you it's black.

Dash is now fully mounted in, speedo works again, has new shocks in the back now too.

Oh, and if anybody has a CHEAP laptop they want to sell me (like $50 laptop sort of thing), I need something for the megasquirt. My old laptop died on me.

What's the minimum processor/interface required?

azrael
07-25-2007, 02:33 PM
Serial interface, I've seen it run on Pentium Is.

Dan_Gyoba

LOL! I have a 386 laptop that has a serial interface. The battery doesn't work anymore, but I have an AC adapter. :P

386? Pfff, I have a 486 laptop.......wait, I have a 486 laptop...... I should try that!

Anyways, I just need something that will run windows 9x. A serial port would be nice, but I have a PCMCIA Serial card I can use. Battery condition doesn't matter, I have an inverter.

ooh, now that I think about it, I think my dad has an old pentium laptop lying around.

I use an old IBM thinkpad i1400 with win98 SE. Works excellent. Only real problem I have is with MegaLog Viewer. Lags like a bitch.

It's WHITE again!

After a lot of sanding, it's white. I also ground down half the rust on the car. There really wasn't much! The worst was under the windshield on the passenger side. There was literally a hole right into the car.
I removed the rust, and sealed a piece of metal over the hole. Another day, and I should have the rest of the rust removed, and any holes fiberglassed.

Sorry no pics, my image host is down for some strange reason.

I also got the paint code for the car, but I'm still undecided if I should keep it white, or paint it black. I want to do black, but I don't want to go through the extra effort.

Edit: Oh, and I managed to get a parts laptop off of Ebay with a good motherboard I can use to rebuild mine with. I'll have a working laptop soon.

Edit2: And my Supra's new motor will be here in the next few days! All these people trying to make their north american MKIIIs a 2.5TT, and here mine's going to be a 3L Turbo :p

celica need supra seats......

annoyingrob

It had Supra seats when I bought it. The Celica seats looked better. If I can find some good condition Supra seats, I'll put them in.
