Hey everyone,

I was taking a look under the hood yesterday and noticed that the stock electric fan(the one that sits on the right side behind the rad) was not spinning. Is it supposed to spin all the time, or just when the car is hot? The car does not overheat, so this may be a non-issue right now. Anyways, just wanted to know if these things go commonly or have any importance other than helping keep the engine cool.

thanks,
-Nathan

There are 2 switches that are supposed to activate that fan. 1 is if the coolant temperature exceeds a certain temp (basically the engine is overheating already) and the other is an A/C pressure switch, which is for pressures that it should not reach if things are operating normally. So basically, it shouild come on only very rarely, and only in high duty situations, it should NEVER come on in any situation where you have the hood up, unless you have cooling system problems.

I re-wired mine to come on whenever the AC compressor is active, but in retrospect, I don't think that was a good idea. I think that the fan motors weren't meant for that kind of continuous use, so I may have abused mine too much.

Thanks Dan,

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to worry about it, and it sounds like I don't. Maybe I'll bring it in to work this weekend and test it out just to make sure it'll work if something goes FUBAR.

Hi Nathan,

In addition to the main fan, I also have the two electric fan set up that I no longer need. $50.00 and they are yours! :D

They both worked perfect before I took them out. I almost never used my A/C as it needed a recharge.
