hey, so my buddies 87 supra is getting a turbo swap done, and wants around 300-350 RWHP! any ideas on how he can achieve this? I was thinking maybe alluminum pulley's, cam maybe, valves, injectors, ignition, etc. Any ideas would be great! He is also thinking of turning up the boost to 12 psi! is this a smart move? i think the stock supras run 7-9 PSI so i was woundering if he would be hurting the engine by uping the boost? The engine has 70-80k on it that is being swapped in! also would be nice to know what he should do for clutch and flywheel since the swap engine has a worn flywheel and clutch and will need replaced! any ideas on what brand to get? he would like something that wont break the bank but will last! was looking at a OEM and or parts source flywheel and clutch which is stock! and if he chooses to use the stock flywheel and clutch, will it be able to handle 300 + RWHP?

Any feedback would be very much appreciated! Thanks

Rob

exhaust, downpipe, intake, IC piping and IC, AFC, and more boost = 300+

is he sticking with the stock NA tranny? its different than the turbo 5 spd, not as strong, and behind 300 it will break eventually.

for the clutch you'll have to ask someone else, i don't know much about them.

first step is get a r154.

The ct-26 will get you to 300 hp..but tiw ill start getting hard to breath in the high end. budget depending iw ould recomend a upgraded ct 26. it will get to the 350 at a great price and won't have to chenge and of his hardware..just plug and play

Otherwise just the obvious stuff. i would get some bigger injectors too...550 should do nicely.

i would get a slightly better clutch than stock...its the tourque that actully kills them and you should be at the 350ft/lbs mark so i would highly doubt the stock clutch will hold that for long...it would probably slip too

OH and HEAD GASKET...check that shit out...you don't need to go with a metal one but you will want to make sure its good and what not and upgrade to ARP studs.

Hey.

Its my car were talking about here. Yes its getting a R154 and I am on a tight budget. 300RWHP right now is kind of my goal. First mods are going to be a HKS metal headgasket and ARP studs (have them already). Then a custom 3" divorced down pipe, custom 3" exhaust with no cat and a Megan Racing muffler. Next thing will be an intake. What do you guys reccommend? Apexi, Hks, Blitz, K&N etc. I have a boost gauge and Im going to make or buy some kind of manual boost controller and turn up the boost to 12-14psi. Im not exactly sure what Id be at around here.. 250rwhp and 300rwtq maybe? Or somewhere in this area?

See after those mods, Im debating what to do. What kind of gains do guys see from 500cc injectors and a Lexus AFM? How hard is this to do? Im assuming that you take it to a dyno and tune it. Do you need a different ECU or anything?

Im thinking right now, a buddy in town here might have a stock clutch with about 25-50% wear.. I was thinking of getting that for $30, and putting that in for now and when I have the money to upgrade, I can get a racing clutch instead of spending $200 on a oem style one now and upgrading later.

Any opinions/help is appreciated.

550's and lexus afm will let you run more boost without hitting fuel cut, thats the biggest advantage. and since they are both about 25% larger than stock, they shouldn't need any tuning afterwards.

12-14psi will get you more than 250rwhp, your torque will generally be 10 more than your hp. thats what i typically see anyways.

i'm not a fan of installing used stock parts, its a lot of time/effort/possibly money, why not wait a bit and do it right the first time?

If you get the engine running at all well, you'll eat a cheap clutch in no time. Then you'll be under the car again, and spending more cash. A clutch is NOT the place to save $, even on a stock setup. With increased boost it's just foolish.

The only way I'd agree with the used clutch plan is if the engine mods are in the future as well as the clutch upgrade.

What kind of clutch do you reccomend?

Is there any clutch I could get to meet my needs in the $200-300 range?
