so i have an 86.5, i thought i should make a build thread to see what you all think.
i have a thread already in general chat about taking out my stock sound deadener and i decided to just do picture updates in here.
so this is my car
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture027.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture029.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture020.jpg
this is my brothers car my competition HAHAHA
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture028.jpg
except he is putting a h22a1 in it so it'll be fast.
k so back with my supra, i started taking out the stock sound deadener about a week or 2 ago here are some pictures of the process.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture018.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture019.jpg
k now today i finally finished taking it all out so here are some pics of all the tar out and its vacuumed.
the back bench
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture023.jpg
the drivers side
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture025.jpg
the passenger side
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture026.jpg
so when i first took out the interior i got a good look at the floor, and very little rust, only rust i found was this little hole which i will patch up

k so now to the engine, this car was an n/a obviously and it was siezed solid,
this is the engine
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/Picture032.jpg
now i bought an 89 turbo and the engine had a knock.
we pulled that engine and sold the body, so we pulled my 86.5 in and we pulled the engine. so now we have 2 non working engines. We were considering just doing either the 1jz or 2jz swap, but we dont have the money, so we decided on doing the N/A-T conversion, so we bought a 7mge engine from tiger japanese motors in toronto.
here is the new engine
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture033.jpg
and here is my engine bay which was filled with sludge and mud, but now its clean
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture030.jpg
updates to come soon.

Hey! Haven't heard from you in a while!
Nice start to a build thread, I'm going to be posting some new stuff in mine too.
If you want to get rid of the rest of that tar, I highly recommend trying some different liquid products that can dissolve it, such as Goo Gone (my first choice) so that you can get a clean finish.
Are you planning on leaving the interior stripped, or were you just doing a rust check?
Either way, I highly recommend taking the time now that it's stripped to tidy everything up, maybe get rid of some unwanted accessories, bundle wires up, etc.
What are you using for engine management?
If you need any help getting the NA-T to work for you, or just need some build parts local, I have a lot of spare turbo parts I don't need anymore like an intercooler and stuff, so I could sell them to you for a fair price. and give you a hand with anything
Best of luck, I look forward to watching your project evolve!
Cheers,
Tim

Oh man, that's exactly what i did to the rear floor of my late 84. Acetone will take the rest of that tar off no prob. Paint too if you rub hard.
Good luck with the project!

alright so it was october since i last updated this, main reason is i havent worked on it. ive been busy with basketball and school. but now that basketball and all of that is over with i can start again.
over the past couple of months ive been collecting parts for the engine and the car and i have taken pictures of them.
i pretty much have all the bearing and rings for a full engine rebuild.
here are the rings
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture054.jpg
and we got the bearings
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture056.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture057.jpg
i also purchased some side mirrors cuz mine are all busted.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture058.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture059.jpg
from the guy i bought the mirrors, i also bought headlights. but hen they appeared i opened the box up and the one glass cover was cracked so they are no good, luckily they were only like 40 dollars.
and so im doing the rebuild and all so why not get a new header
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture060.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture061.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/Picture062.jpg
so i have all the parts except for the downpipe to have this thing up and running. it shall be soon hopefully

ssautochrome manifold? only thing i would do with that is reinforce the welds and maybe do some better porting, some of they're porting jobs are crap. other than that i thing they are decent manifolds, especially at the price.
crazyeyes11
03-03-2007, 12:20 AM
thanks for the input on the manifold, im not to sure if its the brand you say it is, my father says its already has the reinforced welds already. i really want this thing done, its to the point where i want to drive this car REALLY bad
crazyeyes11
09-02-2007, 10:39 PM
i have started to work on the car again, fuck it has been a long time haha. im first doing the interior, i want to patch up the wholes so when winter comes nothing gets worse. im also going to undercoat the whole cab and put sound deadener in.
i have taken out all the interior in the fornt and all i have to do it take the rest of the rear out, then i can start roughing up the metal for the undercoating.
after that which will only take me a few days to complete and get interior all back together im going to get all the enigne parts clean, my dad has found some tool that were put in storage that i can use to clean my pistons and all of that, also a hone was found to hone the cylinders which are a little to small to fit the pistons.
it should only take a few months to get this thing running and in good condition. so i can finally come out to some meets with the car
crazyeyes11
09-04-2007, 08:00 PM
k so i did more work and i took pictures.
i took out the whole interior so there is nothing left except the dash and pedals. i removed ALL the tar. now i can fix the one rust hole, scuff up the cab and undercoat it all.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/pictures005-1.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/supra002.jpg
now that sat for about a week then we got the crankshaft cleaned today and put it on with new bearings.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/supra009.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/supra008.jpg
so now until the next time i start working on it which should be next couple days. i shall be working and fiberglassing the base of my a-pillars
crazyeyes11
03-09-2008, 08:55 PM
i got the pistons all cleaned up tonight, tomorow i will be getting them prepped to go into the block YAY! progress
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/supra.jpg
I can't see many of the pictures in your previous posts. ;-(
How'd you go about getting the cylinders sorted for the pistons? You have new piston rings/pin clips/etc? How do the pistons mic out?
crazyeyes11
03-11-2008, 01:46 PM
pistons are from an N/A engine. new rings. because the pistons were too big in the turbo block we bored it and they fit nice and tight.
we just kept the pistons organized since we took them out of the block at the beginning
crazyeyes11
03-11-2008, 02:05 PM
k so i fixed most of my pictures on here.
and i also did some work on my cab today. i took a wire brush hooked it up to the drill and took it to the floor boards. now it is pretty much all prepped for spray. then i can lay my sound deadener down.
i plan on buying new carpet for it cuz mine is absolutely brutal and also im going to be buying leather seat covers so i can replace the cloth thats on it right now. i am purchasing it from this place (http://leatherseats.com)
Dan_Gyoba
03-11-2008, 02:32 PM
That's a nice motor build.
Using the NA pistons in a GTE block for higher compression? I was considering that, too, but I figured that I'd rather have a more standard base to work from. Besides, it was easier to leave that part alone. ;)
crazyeyes11
03-11-2008, 02:38 PM
yes i am doing it for higher compresson.
im hopefully going to have this car done by my grad which is in may. there isnt THAT much to do on it. just the fact that i gotta get crackin lol + i need a job to buy a new clutch and exhaust system
Dan_Gyoba
03-11-2008, 02:54 PM
Uh ... "not THAT much to do on it..."
I'm seeing a motor, torn down to the bare block on a stand, and a car that's stripped down just about to something that could be dipped in a vat for paint.
My car was a lot further along than that when I still had 6-8 weeks before it was ready to drive... But then it wasn't at MY place, so I couldn't work on it every day, either, plus I ended up having to wait on parts and the head work as well.
Looks like it's going to be a very pretty car when you're done, and since you're probably better prepared than I was, you shouldn't have the delays that I ended up with. (I had to do the whole thing on a very tight budget. Too tight for what I WANTED to do, which is a complete engine rebuild, I had to settle for just replacing gaskets throughout.)
It'll be interesting to see what your car drives like. Looking forward to seeing it in action.
crazyeyes11
03-11-2008, 03:02 PM
well actually body work is not going to happen til later. the body is pretty good condition. some surface rust on the wheel wells.
interior is easy haha its take a couple days for all the sound deadener, then itll take a couple days to put the interior that i want back in it.
and yea i have ALL the parts that i need except clutch and exhaust which is nice
AbsoluteSpeed
03-11-2008, 06:24 PM
Do you know which clutch and exhaust you are going to go with?
I’m trying to decide on a clutch but I am going to hold off on exhaust for a bit. But I like how Dan's exhaust sounds, nice and quiet untill you want it to be.
crazyeyes11
03-11-2008, 08:46 PM
if heard really good reviews on the spec clutches. i think thats what they are called. umm im not too sure on the exhaust though im still looking around
Driftmotion has a deal with Action Clutch where you can get an upgraded pressure plate good for 400 ft/lbs with a new stock clutch disc, or more with the six puck of your choice.
I'm running the upgraded PP with a stock disc and it's great so far. Once the break-in was done it has ran without any slipping whatsoever, and easy engagement.

the pistons are FINALLY in yay
Getting there eh? What are your clearances for the rod big-ends and crank journals?

I ran an open dump on my wastegate for a few months. I quickly grew tired of it, and had it re-circulated.

03-24-2008, 09:04 PM
Heckler: the book said max is 30 thou i think. mine is around 15 thou. i myself am not too sure thats just what my pops said lol
more progress today. got the oil pump put on and the oil pan is in the process of being cleaned since it was very very dirty. it should go on tomorrow
crazyeyes11
04-01-2008, 09:19 PM
k so now the head is in cleaning process
oil pan is cleaned and ready to go on. we got the front plate on with the waterpump. we cant put anything else on until the head is on
also my dad ruined the belt tensioner pulley because he was being so careful not to drop it in the varsell while cleaning it that it popped out of his hands into the tub of varsell lol.
180 dollars from the dealer but we found a place in canada that sells OEM one for like 40 dollars.
and the cams out of both the 7mge's we arent going to use because where the journals sit its all scratched so we will use something good so that in the future i dont have problems
crazyeyes11
04-26-2008, 04:49 PM
so i decided to do my pillar pods today... i dont have pictures because i fergot my camera but i will have pictures tomorrow because im not done.
i sanded my pillars and bondo-glassed the passenger side to get rid of the shit handle. it looks real nice smooth and once it is painted it will be nice first i have to lay down a thin thin lair of actual bondo though.
the pillars pods that derek(supraboyz) gave me are going to be on the pillar for good tomorrow and hopefully be able to paint it.
and i ordered new interior carpet today from www.stockinterior.com for like 200 or so dollars and now all i need is my heated leather seats from www.leatherseats.com which will be about 800 or so dollars. wow interior almost done and engine almost done
Supraboyz
04-28-2008, 03:48 AM
Thats good to hear your making progress. You need to finish that car so you can enjoy it. The rocks are almost off the streets. Which means only one thing Supra time. Post some pics.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/supra016.jpg
they still need quite a bit of work. but its not to much just some sanding on the pink one and to make the one with the pods pink lol
i also got the oilpan on and first coat of paint
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Crazyeyes11/supra/supra017.jpg
probably put one more coat on tonight before i go to bed
crazyeyes11
05-11-2008, 04:06 PM
k so i made a big purchase... i spent 800 dollars except it is not for the supra. i went to car audio gone wild and i am putting it in my civic lol.
im planning on getting the bodywork done since it is taking forever to get the car going because of shit coming up and not having time to work on the car.
